Still searching for a connection between Darlene Ferrin, her killer and Paul Stine? Believing that the distance between Vallejo and San Francisco is actually too far to get those two cases connected to each other?

Well, the solution could be just a coffee (and three blocks) away:

Franks Coffee Shop is listed in Darlene Ferrin’s personal address book. It’s location? 10, Geary Street, San Francisco. Kinda know this address?

You are right: Three blocks away, at Geary/Mason, victim Paul Stine had picked up his own killer. Therefore, it is NOT certain at all that there had been no connection between those two cases. What if Darlene had known her murderer, possibly had been with him (or one of his buddies – or her husbands’ ones) at Franks Coffee Shop?

Darlene obviously knew about that coffee shop, most likely was there at least once. It was even mentioned that the place was her uncles’. Thus, very likely that she had been there on a regular basis when visiting San Francisco.

If so, she’d have been away only three blocks from where such buddy (?) had picked up Paul Stine. All of this happening in a different city than her own home town, Vallejo.

This to be accidential? I doubt it. There might be many coffee shops in SF, true, many of those in that area – correct. But in the same street? Rather looks like she had been there before – with her killer certainly not being far away.

Arthur Ferrin was the father of Dean – but also of Dean’s brother Paul, correct?

According to this, Paul F. can be placed (indirectly, as we don’t know if he had ever been at Frank’s coffee shop, eg with Dean and/or Darlene) very close to a location next to where Stine had actually picked up his last passenger.

Coffee, anybody?

It has to be said though that it isn’t a 100% certain that Z was picked up from Mason & Geary Street. This was a rough indication and it was also mentioned that it could have easily also been from Union Square (in front of the St. Francis Hotel was a popular taxi spot) or from further in the theatre district. I have done timings based on the police reports and it would actually be more likely that Z was picked up in the theatre district closer to the Interstate 80 by Market Street. The police report has the sighting of the Robbins kids at 9:55 and it is absolutely essential to mention that they had NOT heard a gunshot and the fair originally being to Washington & Maple St. The actual murder has to be accounted for in time and I feel we have to factor in some time for that too (the car was possibly never stationary though). If you look at the timings in the report and his first fair, in combination with the Robbins sighting and Stine being pronounced death at 10:10 Mason & Geary would in fact be very, very tight.

I think it is much more likely that Z went to the screening of De Sade at the Golden Gate Theatre which started at 7pm and finished around 9:25pm (Marquis De Sade being a writer Z would have most likely been interested in). Stine would have come off the Interstate 80 (from the airport) and been able to pick up Z within 2-3 minutes. This could mean Z was already in the car when Stine accepted the arranged fair at 9:45.

However, Frank’s Cafe is still an interesting location in general and is definitely a location we can place Darlene in SF.
