Over on Tom’s site, there was some excitement as Destry Hines announced that in an email and 5 hour long interview, Bryan Hartnell had listened to the voice of Richard Gaikowski and declared it 97% similar to the voice of the man who stabbed him and Cecilia. That excitement was short-lived when Tom posted today that someone was pretending to be Hartnell and was doing fake interviews with podcasts.
This is really F*$%&ed up. This case is already full of lies, half-truths, myths, and misinformation, not to mention the grief it brings Mr. Hartnell. He’s already an exceptionally private person, so this makes it even harder for someone like Mr. Hartnell, the best living witness – to share what information he has. It will only make him more suspicious of people asking him about his experience.
Kudos to Tom V. for doing his due diligence and following up before confirming anything.

Disgusting.
Gaik ruled out.

Was the host doing the duping in your opinion? Or did the host get duped?
I’m not the best one to ask. That would be Tom Voigt since he dealt with it directly.
However, from what I can tell, it was a third party (under the guise of BH) that was emailing various true crime podcasts with offers of an interview. Destry fell for it, it appears. I could be wrong.
The alternative – that Destry and/or someone closely associated with him faked all of this – is almost too awful to even consider.

Destry suffered a tragedy last night so I’d ask we just let this take a rest for a while at least.
Yikes. That sucks.
In fact, if any mod wants to delete this thread altogether, I’d have no objection.

Thoughts and prayers to Tom Voigt and friends after yet another embarrassing incident.
Been a tough year and a bit with the DNA stuff and now this. Take care.

To be clear…this has nothing to do with Tom Voigt. In anything, he’s the one that did his due diligence and confirmed all of this as fake.

He did post the news first though without verifying if the interview was legit. I think the proper diligence would have been to verify its authenticity before you posted the news of it.
Hopefully, people can learn from this experience so we don’t have another incident where the fake news spreads all over the place.
I’m not a gyke person but I imagine it was terribly depressing for gyke people to get all hyped up about this news only for it to be redacted days later.
it’s important to verify claims before you post it.

Hi Tom
No, I’m not Tom. I have read his Website and the man has excellent knowledge of these matters. Won’t You Come Home Bill Bailey, Won’t you come home. She moaned the whole day long.

Destry and I worked together to catch an imposter. And it worked.
But don’t let that stop you from bringing up my news from last March, I appreciate you reminding everyone about my DNA scoop.
PS:
They got DNA.
