The following post may simply point to an instance of zynchronicity, nothing more. Much depends upon what the area between Vallejo and American Canyon looked like in the late-1960s and early-1970s. For that reason, if anybody has access to a map of the area from the period I’d be interested to see it.

Dr Kim Rossmo’s geographical profile of the Zodiac identified an arc taking in American Canyon, Mare Island and Benicia as an area of interest. If the modern street map of the area is anything to go by — and I hasten to add that’s a big if — then this is an interesting result. It’s interesting in light of the ‘Little List’ letter, one of the two letters sent by the Zodiac killer to the San Francisco Chronicle in July 1970. In that letter, one of the many words from Ko-Ko’s aria that the Zodiac misspells is the word ‘flat’: ‘floor you with ’em flat’ he transcribes as ‘implore you with im platt’. On a modern street map, ‘Platt Court’ appears to be a cul-de-sac off Tuolumne Street, itself a street connected to the case via the phone call made to Nancy Slover after the Blue Rock Springs attack in July 1969. Platt Court appears to fall just within the Rossmo arc, though admittedly not in an area of peak interest.

Perhaps Platt Court didn’t exist in the late-’60s/early-’70s, but it’s interesting to note that on a modern map Sereno Drive, where David Faraday lived, runs west to east about a two-minute drive away. Vallejo High School, which Faraday attended, is a five-minute drive away, as is the First Presbyterian Church where he was a member (and where his funeral was held). Colonial Chapels, where a funeral service was held for Betty Lou Jensen, is also about a five-minute drive from Platt Court.

This might all prove to be a house of cards. If Platt Court didn’t exist at the time of the murders, and ‘im platt’ turns out to be just another meaningless misspelling, then zynchronicity is probably the best that can be said for it.

All thoughts very welcome.

I believe they were built in 1984/5.

I always looked at it as Im Platt – I’m platt – I am platt.

If the houses were built later, it would almost certainly mean that ‘Platt Court’ is a simple case of zynchronicity. Thanks for looking up that information. And thanks for your thoughts.

Another possibility is that ‘Platt’ has some sort of local or historical resonance — a connection to the area which pre-dates the construction of the houses in Platt Court.

I’ll try to look into this.

All good wishes,

William Gilbert wrote the libretto, Zodiac added the platt.

I’m interested in American Canyon as a possible Zodiac residence. Even today it is a remote area with a small population, so the WMA population in 1968-9 is a very small pool.

Doing a quick Google Search, I found 3 different William Platts associated with the area. There of course may be more. The first was an early land settler in Vallejo in the 19th century — possibly the guy Platt Ct. was named for. The other two were students at the University of California in Berkeley — both undergrads at the same time during the late 20s. One appears to have lived at 2531 Channing Way in Berkeley, the other at 5900 Chabot Rd in Oakland.
