I would think that law enforcement would have made an announcement if The Z. had been discovered and case solved.

I could go with that. Seems sound.

I don’t know Chief, he’s very smart or very dumb.

I was researching Donna Lass, and came across this:
http://www.laketahoenews.net/2013/08/qu … -in-tahoe/

Read down thru the comments and skip the Kevin Brooks garbage. Get to this comment:

"I new an ex Vallejo Calif. police officer who told me years ago that the Zodiac Killer was caught and killed in Santa Cruz and he was involved in the case for several years. He passed away 10 years ago so there is no way for me to confirm his story. He was a very honest man and a good cop for almost 30 years with the Vallejo Police Dept"

Anybody know what or who this may be referring to? I am a tad bit skeptical of the way in which the person misspelled KNEW,but it could be a simple mistake. I was wondering if he might be referring to Fred Manalli.

I could totally see cops just killing the Zodiac rather than risking a very public trial ending in an acquittal based upon jurisdictional disputes or failure of police forces to communicate with one another. But I don’t think that it happened. I have said before that we would never know if someone, whether police or civilian, killed Zodiac during the commission of one of his crimes. It’s not like he would have announced that he was Zodiac. The NYPD had no idea that they had the copycat Zodiac in custody on felony domestic battery until the dummy signed a confession with a symbol he used in one of his Zodiac letters. So, if Z were cornered and died in a police shootout, he would just be some low life shot by the police that is long forgotten by history.
