In October 1969, and just a couple of blocks from where Zodiac entered Paul Stine’s cab, there was a shop that sold short-haired wigs for people with long hair. Yes, including crew cut wigs. Here’s their ad from a local San Francisco newspaper that appeared just a few days prior to the Stine murder:

Interesting. It probably looked ridiculous if you did have longer hair, but I guess not as much if short or very short.

Have you come across any photos of men wearing crew cut wigs? I just did a quick search on the Googles and don’t see any. Would be interesting to see how that actually looks.

A few minutes ago on a toilet not very far, far away….

It probably looked ridiculous but we are talking San Francisco in 1969 filled with freaks. That’s why I don’t think police would have taken a second thought to the missing portion of Stine’s shirt had they noticed before the letter arrived. Between the hippie freaks, the Castro, North Beach and the Tenderloin, there was no "normal" way to look. Normal was abnormal.

It begs the question would the killer take the risk of being identified by the shop owner if it became apparent to LE that the killer was using a wig.

My POI had his scalp ripped off by a tree branch as a kid. There is another article which details it but you can read about the 12" head scar here

I am speculating he has familiarity with wigs to hide the scar and may be a reason why he never married.

www.zodiachalloweencard.com has a 400 paged book for free containing the super solution with an overarching explanation of the cards and more.

There was also a SF Chronicle reporter that was known to wear wigs and costumes. I forget his name… Maitland Zaine or something like that. And his nickname was "Sandy."
