Does anyone know if Paul Stine was related to Oliver & Isabel Stine? Isabel was obsessed with Japanese culture and was also the founder of the S.F. Opera. Oliver & Isabel were significantly older than Paul, but there could be some sort of link here.

Can you maybe elaborate on who this people were and where you got this info?

…they may be dealing with one or more ersatz Zodiacs–other psychotics eager to get into the act, or perhaps even other murderers eager to lay their crimes at the real Zodiac’s doorstep. L.A. Times, 1969

Don’t know if this where he found the information but I found some at find a grave.

Oliver was from PA and his fathers name was Charles W. Stine. I’ve not found hard cold fact but I suspect his mother was Ella E. (Unknown). If you do a search on Charles and oliver you will find a newspaper article mentioning the two. Haven’t read it so I don’t know what it says. I did a search on Charles W., and find it possible that his parents were Abraham and Carolina E (Hoover) Stine. Still digging on Theodore Stine.

Side note: when digging for Charles Stine I found mention of a Melville Stine living in Alameda. Not worth much im sure but thought it odd when thinking of the Melvin eats blubber comment.

Theodore Milford Stine was born Dec. 6, 1904 in Arkansas. He had five older siblings, three were brothers, James, Claud and Paul. His father was Charles Albert Stine and his mother is listed as Cordelia A Spinks on most family records although Milford Stine’s CA death record states that his mother’s maiden name was Stanks. I suspect that the CA death record is misspelled because I was able to trace back Cordelia with the last name of Spinks.

Milford Stine’s mother died four months after he was born and he was raised by a James and Emma Brockman. Milford appeared on the 1910 census living with the Brockman’s in Cane Hill Arkansas. He was still living with the Brockman’s on the 1920 census at age 16 and they were living in Hulbert Oklahoma. June 2, 1928 Milford married Audra Busby in Muskogee Oklahoma.

Charles Albert Stine was born in Calhoun Illinois in 1863. Cordelia A Spinks was born in Green County Indiana in 1868.

That’s funny. I was just about to post all that. In fact one of the screw ups is the date of birth Dec 6. Some show him as being born June 12. Perhaps problems deciphering census? Anyway, traced Paul to Daniel Williamson Stine born in 1795 but no oliver yet.

I think Oliver and Isabel were both born in the late 1800s. Just thought since their last name is Stine and the Mikado being an opera set in Japan that there could be something there, but most likely there is not. I know Oliver and Isabel lived in San Fran at some point in time.

Oliver Charles Stine was born Oct. 30, 1877 in Pennsylvania. Yep, October 30th. In 1905, he married Isabel Longdon. He was one of the more prominent members of the Bohemian Club. Oliver and Isabel lived in the Russian Hill area of San Francisco and were very close friends with the Livermore family that I have posted about a couple of times.

EDIT: The Livermore family sold a home to Oliver and Isabel Stine in 1920. The home was located at 1071 Vallejo St. in San Francisco’s Russian Hill.

Sounds like Paul Stine’s family and Oliver and Isabell were on opposite ends of the social scale.

Yeah, can’t argue that. I seriously doubt there was any relation. But perhaps Paul was "chosen" because of his last name for whatever reason. Dates and locations seemed important to the zodiac attacks, maybe names were as well.

Some info I found at another Zodiac sight that might help other start with tracking down Stine’s roots. Info found by The Foreigner (who always seems to get good info and we need more of her here again):

"Here is an interesting coincidence:

Paul Stine´s stephfaher, Leroy J Harrison, died 10 Oct 1968

That is 1 year and 1 day previous to Paul Stine´s murder 11 Oct 1969

California Death Index, 1940-1997
about Leroy J Harrison
Name: Leroy J Harrison
Social Security #:
Sex: MALE
Birth Date: 28 Jul 1895
Birthplace: Texas

here is the marriage record:

California Marriage Index, 1960-1985
