I think it’s safe to assume that this isn’t about the identification of a suspect. If it were, the DOJ would be involved. My guess is the discovery of new evidence or the release of information about LB that Napa has previously held under wraps.

This rumor began by a post on the Zodiac Killer Facebook page by a gentleman named Phillip Powers. He is known for his theory that his grandfather Kenneth German was the Zodiac. Normally I would dismiss this out of hand.

But then Eddie Barsh posted that he had heard the same thing. Then Sandy said she had too.

Combine that with Morf’s tweet from two weeks ago and Tom V’s winking response today and I think there’s some smoke here.

Still, you could be right and it could all be crap.

Do we know of any sort of timescale for an announcement? Days weeks months ?

Morf recently posted on the same Zodiac FB page that his sources are calling rumors of an announcement "hogwash", but that he is confident that "progress is being made in the case".

So, it’s possible to speculate that Napa is working on something big, but aren’t prepared to make it public just yet.

Well, like I’ve said before there is a photo of Narlow and Lonergan handling the clothesline without gloves a few days after the attack. I wonder how many other people touched that clothesline over the years. Plus blood from two vics is on it. Didn’t Hartnell say that the knots were somewhat easier to undo because the clothesline was slippery with blood?

Touch DNA? Count me skeptical.

If there were a match with someone to DNA from the letters that VPD is analyzing, I assume they’d be involved in the announcement, too.

If they got DNA from the clothesline and it matched with the DNA from the back of the stamps, it would represent a huge break in the case and a good omen for the viability of genetic genealogy investigations.

It would also put to rest ridiculous theories about the Lake Berryessa attacker being an impostor instead of the same killer.
