Just wanted to say this place is a great source of information.

I would like to know what most of you think about the finger print that was found on Paul Stine’s cab. I was watching HLN’s Very Scary People recently and they mentioned Ross Sullivan’s print did NOT match the cab print. As far as I know, I have heard the ALA and Gyke prints also were not a match — so all three were ruled out.

I know the kids who witnessed the cab murder saw Zodiac wiping the cab down. Did he miss a print or is the print some random person who had nothing to do with the crime? Are the police confident this was Zodiac’s finger print? I know Zodiac says he put air plane glue on his fingers, but I don’t know if I believe him. I would love to hear what everyone thinks.

Morning Randy, I don’t know about the finger print questions you’ve asked, but you mentioned that you know the kids who saw Stines murder. Would you be able to ask them what type of party they were having ? Family get together, birthday, friends, none of these? I’d be interested. Thank you.

He didn’t mean he knew them. As in "I know them."

Hey randytybalt,

Throughout the case more than 60 suspected Zodiac prints were collected on microfilm from various sources (letters, crime scenes). Roughly about 40 finger prints, 20 palm prints and a few impressions (whatever an impression may be).

Whenever a print comparison was requested to the FBI, they compared to all Zodiac prints on record. The latent case ID for Zodiac is A-10042.

Someone tried to get the prints through a FOIA request in 2010 or so but they were not released: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/USC … 2959-2.pdf

I feel rightfully so:

This case is still an open homicide investigation. Our office has jurisdiction in this case as one victim was killed in our county and our agency still continues to follow up on leads.
Our agency previously submitted latent prints to your agency to assist in identification of a suspect. These latent prints are crucial to our ongoing criminal investigation.
I adamantly want to insure that this evidence is not to be released as to do so would jeopardize the successful prosecution of a suspect in this investigation.

Because the San Francisco Police Department’s investigation in this matter is open and ongoing, disclosure of documents and case materials may endanger successful investigation.
Although a substantial amount of time has passed since the commission of these crimes, the SFPD still receives potential leads and information on the case on a frequent basis.

Ah, this makes good sense — and thank you so much!!!

So the FBI and the authorities have some definite fingerprints. I did not know that. Thanks again!

So does this mean law enforcement has prints that were matched on confirmed Zodiac material? For example, a thumb print on confirmed Z letter 1 matches a confirmed Z letter 3 or 4?

Good question, I don’t know but the information you seek may be in the FBI files somewhere.

They may have Zodiac prints from a crime scene or letter/envelope. I consider the partial in blood from the cab definitive. I don’t believe they have a match from more than one source.

Honestly people are working on this , in fact some of us by contributing comments on this case are trying to help solve the case. Perhaps prints could be a promising part of this case as in someday there can be a match given the number of prints available.
