I was listening to a podcast recently about the GSK and they mentioned how many former law enforcement officers had joined with internet investigators like all of us to research the case. The podcast referred to them as the “B Team” and active investigators as the “A Team”. I also know that active FBI agents have frequented the DB Cooper forums, using the resources of civilian investigators to try and move the case forward.

To my knowledge, that hasn’t been the case with the Zodiac. Why haven’t any current and former law enforcement folks waded onto the forums and interacted with the amateur Zodiac investigators? At this point, what do they have to lose, and an open exchange of information might actually be beneficial.

Too bad that LE seems to see most Zodiac internet sleuths to be kooks and crackpots.

To be perfectly honest people on forums don’t share information so why the hell would law enforcement, also the amount of flack they have received over the years wouldn’t exactly be endearing.

Yes, I know that we have had contact with LE privately, but it would be nice to have Poyser come back on and share what he can. It would be really beneficial to have him come on and really interact with us, much like FBI agent Larry Carr did on the DB Cooper forums.

Just my two cents.

To be honest I do not begrudge anybody who has inside knowledge of the case, they have taken time to cultivate relationships with LE so fair play to them. They have obviously garnered the trust of LE so why should they share any confidential information. We are not entitled this this information, let’s not forget these are still active murder cases.

You only must look at the thread which Jacob linked above to see a reason why LE would be reluctant to post on these boards though, only 5 pages long but it quickly descending into the usual back biting and irrelevant posts. Seriously if you were tasked with the case would some the posts enamour you to Internet sleuths.

That’s not to detract from the potential that messages board’s and forums possess. You only must look at the Luka Magnotta case to see how beneficial the public can, and could, be to LE.
The Problem is that Zodiac was prophetic in his quote “busy work” as this is exactly what we are all guilty of. We all go off in different directions looking into various aspects of the case, but often end up going down rabbit holes.

Perhaps with a little more organisation we could be of benefit to LE, I mean the collected minds of not just this forum but Tom’s as well, could make some real headway. But like I say without any forethought I seriously doubt it will ever happen.

Dave and the other Cipher guys appear to have the right idea, they detail their thought process, the steps they are going to take and then follow the theory through to the end. Thus, meaning that they do follow in each other’s footsteps, they don’t go over old ground, once an idea has been eliminated they state clearly the reasoning behind this conclusion. Perhaps this goes hand in hand with the type of mind it takes in cryptology, but as I’m not that way inclined, I can only speculate.

I know I must seem that either rambling or on my soap box but all I’m trying to say is that why don’t we start to organise any future research. ?? Sharing what we learn though investigation (Obviously not confidential information) and keep clear concise records with source citations.

We all have different skill set’s and between us all we can dedicate far more man power to the case than LE currently can.

I think a very apt question is, "Where is RPD?" If anybody should be releasing some information like they did with the Golden State Killer, it should be the Riverside Police. The GSK case is several years years YOUNGER than the Bates case, and yet they released info to the public in 2017. RPD has a 53 plus year-old case that hasn’t been solved and yet you don’t hear a peep out of them sharing anything of real use with the public to try to get the Bates murder solved. Would it kill them to let us know that there was a phone call to either RPD or the Press after the Bates murder, so that we know for certain that her killer did or did not write the Confession? Are they still stuck on the "local boy" even after high quality mt-DNA ruled him out about 20 years ago?

I tried for years to get to speak to Bill Armstrong about the Zodiac case. I even had Gus Coreris try to get Armstrong to talk to me in like 2006. The standard reply was that he didn’t want to speak to anyone in case he ever had to testify in court. He was born in like 1929. That makes him 90 now. When does that "having to testify" ship ever sail?
