So I have gone and done it backwards. I listened to the Criminology Pod cast of the Golden State Killer then listened to the Zodiac. I do realize that there are time lap issues that would preclude GSK from being 100% Zodiac but could he have associated with him and I wonder could their crimes be co mingled?

Some striking things

Zodiac has female tie up male with rope, that he brings, using the gun to force this to occur. Then uses knife to commit murder.

The Santa Barbara Murders, possibly the first murders, one likely suspect is known only as Sandy and is 17 years old. GSK was 17 years old and has blondish hair that some might have called sandy blond.

Crimes stop in 1974 the same year Visalia Ransacker begins.

I realize he was in the military during some of Zodiac crimes but he was in the Navy and there is an article of his ship docking in San Diego. Could he have been on leave? Also there was a sniper in the SD area possibly related to the Santa Barbara killings.

I want to be careful about forcing the facts to meet the theory so I will stop there.

what does everyone else think? Am I an idiot? Maybe it was HH Holmes. JK

Just to add

they both wrote poems although the only similarities of these was the / to separate lines. But both writings (meaning the non poems Z wrote) suggested being paid a tribute of fame and hinted of future attacks.

Excitement’s Crave

All those mortal’s surviving birth / Upon facing maturity,
Take inventory of their worth / To prevailing society.
Choosing values becomes a task; / Oneself must seek satisfaction.
The selected route will unmask / Character when plans take action.
Accepting some work to perform / At fixed pay, but promise for more,
Is a recognized social norm, / As is decorum, seeking lore.
Achieving while others lifting / Should be cause for deserving fame.
Leisure tempts excitement seeking, / What’s right and expected seems tame.
"Jessie James" has been seen by all, / And "Son of Sam" has an author.
Others now feel temptations call. / Sacramento should make an offer.
To make a movie of my life / That will pay for my planned exile.
Just now I’ d like to add the wife / Of a Mafia lord to my file.

And deserving pest.

DeAngelo/GSK fingerprints should be in the FBI fingerprint database, there are greasy fingerprints from the CJB crime scene that
are supposed to be in that FBI database, so theoretically the computers should make the match automatically if DeAngelo is
responsible for Cheri’s murder.
However, I hope RPD has enough initiative to double check those prints to make sure they don’t match !

Records show his ship was at sea off the coast of Vietnam when CJB was killed.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he was on the ship at that time, he could have been temporarily reassigned for
training, medical reasons, etc.

Agreed, I could never confirm he was actually on the ship. His brother claimed he lost a finger in an accident while in the service. I could never confirm that as true, or when it happened. It would be interesting to know if he was in a military hospital, there’s a Naval hospital in Los Angeles.

There is also supposedly Zodiac DNA which is run automatically on a weekly basis by CODIS. I assume both GSK and Z suspect DNA are in there. But we never know for sure if the DNA is the suspects. First step on getting a hit is to look for innocuous reason for DNA to be present. I often got the DNA hit from car stereo installers, alarm techs and a lot of cops and CSO’s. Then there is the ever present theory that there were two of them at least. Unless GSk is offered a proffer deal we will likely never know and I wouldn’t give that scumbag any kind of real deal.

Speaking of DNA one thing that as a Detective I was always surprised by was how much DNA evidence has trashed the idea of an MO for criminals. Once we get the DNA back from a bunch of crimes they were all over the map. A vehicle burg, a cat burg, robbery, anything you can think of. No real MO just a guy looking for any opportunity. I think the same applies to murderers. If there is a sexual component in the satisfaction element, then think about your own sexual fantasies. Does anyone have just one fantasy? GSK is a good example of that, maybe the best.

When did they develop a DNA profile on Zodiac? Got a link to a story about it, because that would be HUGE news.

Pauld1951, with your knowledge as a detective do you know if Joseph DeAngelo’s fingerprints would be in a national
database this soon ? or does that happen only after he’s convicted ?

Yeah, that sounds wrong.

https://www.sacbee.com/latest-news/arti … 20689.html This might have been where I heard about Zodiac DNA I cant remember right now for sure where I heard that.

When they arrested GSK they would have used a Live Scan booking system at the time of booking. That should be running his prints. But older people can have hard to run prints due to skin withering and wear and tear over the years.

Extremely unlikely DeAngelo is Zodiac, but I agree with Pauld that there are striking parallels between the two. I am convinced that DeAngelo took inspiration from Zodiac, and in his law enforcement/criminology studies probably read in detail about Zodiac’s killing methods and publicity tactics.

The GSK breakthrough also influences me to think that Zodiac had a LE and/or military background like DeAngelo.

GSK’s "Mad is the World" letter. In my eyes his handwriting does not look Zodiac-like at all, although the writing style is similar.

Mad is the word, the word that reminds me of 6th grade. I hated that year … I wish I had know what was going to be going on during my 6th grade year, the last and worst year of elementary school. Mad is the word that remains in my head about my dreadful year as a 6th grader. My Madness was one that was caused by disapointments that hurt me very much. Dissapointments from my teacher, such as feild trips that were planed, then canncled. My 6th grade teacher gave me a lot of dissapointments which made me very mad and made me built a state of haterd in my heart, no one ever let me down that hard befor and I never hated anyone as much as I did him. Disapointment wasn’t the only reason that made me mad in my sixth grade class, another was getting in trouble at school espeically talking thats what really bugged me was writing sentances, those awful sentance that my teacher made … me write, hours and hours Id sit and write 50-100-150 sentance day and night I write those dreadful Paragraphs which embarrased me and more inportant it made me ashamed of myself which in turn, deep down in side made me realize that writing sentance wasn’t fair it wasn’t fair to make me suffer like that, it just wasn’t fair to make me sit and wright until my bones aked, until my hand felt every horrid pain it ever had and as I wrote, I got mader and mader until I cried, I cried because I was ashamed I cried because I was discusted, I cried because I was mad, and I cried for myself, kid who kept on having to write those dane sentances. My Angryness from Sixth grade will scar my memory for life and I will be ashamed for my sixth grade year forever

According to this local ABC News report, LE did cross reference GSK and Zodiac DNA to check for a match.
