Vasa croe, definitely a good find…I could imagine that Z had taken his sign from exactly such a brand. Although it might rather come from the US than Klondyke?
The Halloween card symbol..I still didn’t get where that one was from.. 
maybe I missed it (I saw where the circled 8 is from..)? Z (or the ‘author’) used that one on the envelope, exactly where others would write their return address on..

Klondyke is in Arizona and the halloween symbol was from Otto Kuehster in Colorado.

Another interesting thing to note is that Wootan was a US cattle inspector. As such, he would have access to a LOT of brands and had his own personal brand book.
Now that would be a brand book I would be highly interested in getting my hands on.
Couple more I was able to find in the 1900 Utah Brand Book….these have been fairly elusive for me….the filled square and filled triangle.
And a few more…..these are from Arizona 1916 as well…..
And finally another one that has been elusive….the reverse Q how Z wrote it…all others I have found have not had a straight line for the Q like the one….

No……I have not. I am consistently finding more and more of them in different brand books as I go through the different years and states. That and I would probably look like every other nut out there trying to say I know something if I did……and of course the obvious….I don’t know anyone at any of these types of places to contact.
Do you think it is worth trying to contact anyone about it?

Ok…guess it couldn’t hurt. It isn’t like I have all the time in the world to search for a connection daily anyways so why not get a lot of people searching? Any suggestions on a particular person to send a link to?
My thoughts on this connection keep flip flopping on some ideas so I figure I will put them out to y’all to ponder and post on if you feel like it.
Ok, so the brands I have found span many years and numerous states. My initial thoughts on these are that they are all in a single brand book that either Z created or was handed down to him in some fashion. My second thought is that he found it somewhere and got a sort of fixation on it. And my third thought is that he had a collection of brand books or a single large brand book from a Brand Inspector somehow. Now one of the last brands I posted was from a Frank Wootan who happened to have Z’s crosshair symbol as his brand…..he was a US Brand Inspector and had brothers that were heavily involved in the cattle industry in a sort of law enforcement role. One of which was killed in a very famous shooting over cattle rustling in Arizona called the Powers Cabin Shootout. Some report spell the name Wooten and they are incorrect…it is actually Wootan and the Wootan that was killed was Frank’s brother.
I am positive that the symbols Z used are from brands, I just can’t put my finger on the connection yet.

Yeah I have that page saved out and have looked at it a while back….that and the fact it is called Slaughter Ranch….
