Jarlve, I am trying to set the number of plaintext for a symbol in Substitution + polyphones mode. I click on Function, Symbols, Update List, then highlight the symbol, then highlight Set Solver Polyphones Selected Symbol, then put the number 3 in the input box, click apply, and nothing happens. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks
Sorry for the inconvenience. Doing that should change "polys: 1" to "polys: 3" for that symbol in the list. After you have set the polyphones use the substitution + polyphones solver and it will use them. I have just tested it on a Windows 7 and 10 machine and it is working for me. Let me know if the problem persists.
O.k., it works. I had to delete the word "polyphones#" before entering the number. I will probably be asking a lot of stupid questions about the solver in the near future. Thanks a lot.

It wasn’t part of the pivots was it?
I am still working on the 340 a little bit. Have had to take some breaks to read books for my sanity. But recently I was wondering about "snake" inscription or transcription. A long time ago I presumed that snake couldn’t result in a high count of bigram repeats, but I was wrong.
Here is smokie58. Inscription rectangle is 17 x 20 LRTB, reading "snake" LR and RL alternate rows, TB. Transcription LRTB. 3 polyphones. It wasn’t difficult to make. You could have SA, but there will also be a lot of AS, or NE and EN, RE and ER, TI and IT, and a lot of others.

It should be relatively easy to solve. Identify suspected polyphones, untranspose at the suspected period, then mirror alternate rows. Also note there is another spike at a bogus period.
Hey smokie,
I have some projects planned that will help with such a hypothesis. A solver that should be able to tackle any distribution of polyalphabetism of up to perhaps 20% automatically. And a rewrite/improvement of the transposition solver that allows for snaking. These two can then be coupled together. ETA Probably 2018 somewhere.
Jarlve,
I made a new spreadsheet this week, where I can type positions into an inscription shape, read horizontal or vertical, and inscribe horizontal four directions. Trying out a lot of different shapes and schemes, like the one below ( which didn’t work out ). I am still contemplating the pivots and the P29/39 spike. There would still be a P29 spike even without the pivots, and it really is the most intriguing mystery. I have also been working on the glowerpower solution at times. Still here.
Another possibility that we haven’t really explored much, at least not I. Multiple transcription rectangles. Maybe the pivots are an intentional clue, showing that he transcribed into smaller rectangles, then redrafted into one big rectangle.
Here is the 340, mirrored and flipped, drafted into 18 columns, period 19 repeats shown diagonal. Basically, four 9 x 9 rectangles, with the repeats on diagonal lines. The highly improbable 42 29, or < S, repeat, is not disturbed by this. Close to the blue stars.
I will have to add exploration of multiple transcription rectangles to my to do list.
Hi smokie and jarlve.
Just touching bases, Still following your work and had been working on the GLOWER POWER as well. I found the following. The x iam treating as nulls and the small letters are changed letters. I understand you can make up nearly anything with the neck top computer. I was trying to see if a pattern occurred like every 10th letter was a null. Whilst i did not find that.
It could also read " lower power the nascar a win" that part is untainted.

And smokey I have tried several hundred different rectangle tests using spirals always trying to incorporate one or two pivots. Had some interesting results but nothing to post up yet.
Cheers

You can just use the substitution solver and it will instantaneously find "the hood is" and "glower power".
I have expanded the other high count symbols 11, 23 and 51, one at a time, in the above message. There is little change and no improvement. I also trimmed columns off of the sides and solved substitution and substitution by rows. And trimmed rows off of the top and solved substitution. Little change and no real improvement.
I find it interesting that these words appear in the 4th column down and 4th column up. Still working on this and other ideas.
