P39 still looking for nulls. I started work on a spreadsheet that would insert nulls, but have to mess around with some formulas.

It didn’t detect the pivots this time.

There is no misalignment in the cipher so that is good.

I think that mismatching periodic transposition systems may also cause null regions and has my favor in case of the 340.

I got the bugs worked out on my vertical null groups heatmap. I can slide horizontally or vertically, but the result is obviously the same. The idea is to delete some symbols in a vertical line, different counts of symbols, to try to detect something.

If I set the period to 38, and just one null, here is the result. Note that the spike is just above the right pivot in column 13.

Two nulls, spike just above pivot in column 13, row 10, not pinpoint on column 13 though.

Three nulls, about the same as two, spike but not pinpoint on column 13.

Four nulls, spike exactly at column 13, just above pivot.

Five nulls, spike in same position, column 13 just above pivot.

Six nulls, again, spike in column 13 just above pivot.

Coincidence?

Excellent observations smokie,

I do not want to work on nulls at the moment but will be keen to follow your progress.

I am really excited. I can now slide shapes through the null heatmap and detect their locations in a message if the message is transcribed around the shape. I have tested it on undiffused but transposed plaintext and it works every time. I tested it on the 340 with a pivot shape, P19 and P38 general area of the rightmost pivot, but P57 ( 19 x 3 ) is dead on. Show you later.

O.k.! The null shape is superimposed on the image with red boxes. The position we are looking for in the upper left corner of the shape box. At period 19, there is a small spike in the area of the rightmost pivot. Not showing much, but posted in the interest of thoroughness.

Period 38, pretty close.

Period 57 ( 19 x 13 ) dead on.

And I can also slide two pivots together!

Period 38, dead on.

Let’s say I take out the 14 pivot symbols, which includes the axes. Period 19 is not predominate, but period 1 and period 38 are. But period 38 doesn’t have statistical numbers to imply transposition, necessarily. However, scroll right. There is a spike at period 209, which just happens to be a multiple of 19. EDIT: 19 x 11 = 209.

EDIT: I messed up and put the pivot symbols at the end of the message, which created the P1 spike. Without the pivots, the spike is at P38.

Hey smokie,

The double pivot period 38 is amazing. I am not sure what to think though.

Could you slide through only the horizontal and vertical parts of the pivots please?
