Daniel,
Never heard of anything called the Spyder but here’s a list of underground newspapers from the time period, including dates of circulation:
On the old board I made a pretty lengthy post about Hunter S Thompson and similarities he had with the Zodiac Killer. Some had me shaking my head. Anyhow here is confirmation.

n 1962, he travelled to South America for the National Observer, and became a part time reporter for Brazil Herald. He moved to Glen Ellen, California in 1964, but continued to write for the National Observer until they refused to publish one of his articles. He then moved to San Francisco and became a part of the growing hippie revolution and drug culture. While there, he wrote for Berkeley’s underground paper The Spyder. The Nation published his articles about outlaw biker gangs, which lead to his first book deal for what would become one of his most legendary journalistic works – Hells Angels. This book made him a prominent figure in the world of journalism and a well-known figure. At the time of its publication, he was 30 years old.
Hi entropy:
Hunter S. Thompson said he worked for “The Spyder.” I was looking for the interview, biography of him saying so but I can’t seem to find it at this time.
This post turned out to be mostly about the “Good Times” unless someone can validate “The Spyder” claim by Hunter, I’ll change the title to this post.
Thanks for posting that awesome list. I see “East Village other” EVO… is on it.
Daniel
The publication was called "The Spider", with an "i". It was a Berkeley University publication:

You’re very welcome Daniel and that’s pretty wild coming up with Raoul Duke in the 340. When I get a chance I’ll make a topic post about Hinter on here.
When Hunter shot himself or was supposed to shoot himself there was a cryptic message on his typewriter. Saying Counselor and may have been more that us the public never heard. This is after the Suicide note he wrote Football Season is over.
