Swingggg and a miss…

What bothers me is that the media never even bothers to look at the method involved. This guy says he’s solved it so let’s print it. The letter substitution key allows doranchak to debunk it in minutes but that doesn’t sell newspapers, does it?

It sounds as if you have to buy it .

Daryll’s key is available. There’s a link to it in my article:

If we only had a dollar for everytime somebody solved a code or solved this case, we would all be on a cruise in the Islands someplace, which for me wouldnt be too bad since its freezing here in NJ ;)

Nice to see the article quoting Dave as a counterbalance to the claim. Good job ZKC.com.

I’d seen that "RKO film drop" bit floating around somewhere before. Must have been from his attempt 4 years ago as he mentioned.

Aside from being a "pure player hater" (as one of the commenters refers to you as  ), this analysis is dead on. I really appreciate you taking the time for a critical analysis of the solution so the rest of us don’t have to.

As you point out, this solution uses both of what I consider to be disingenuous methods that allow one to manipulate a coherent-sounding solution:

-Allowing symbols to have multiple letter assignments (this is NOT the way the 408 worked as Zodiac allowed letters to be represented by multiple symbols, not the other way around). If you need a letter B to make the solution make sense, for example, all you have to do is add that to the multiple letters that the corresponding symbol represents.

-Anagramming- Ugh! Sure, we all know that communicating serial killers always use anagrams to convey secret messages but it also exponentially increases the degrees of freedom for any solution and allows for manipulation toward a predetermined solution theme. See Graysmith…

RKO has a film drop outside of its barn? Who knew? It stole test evidence? No wonder why this case was never solved…

It’s not a terrible effort and I don’t mean to make fun of the effort. Like Graysmith’s "solution", it’s only laughable when someone insists on calling it a solution.

Maybe a midnite rowboat cruise around zodiac island lake berryessa, lake herman or Blue Rocks Springs pond.
