This is a simple tool I came up with to make it easier to include Zodiac’s cipher symbols in web pages, blog posts, and forum posts:
Below are some examples of how it can be used:
__________________________________________
Isn’t it strange how the sequences and
intersect with themselves in the 340 cipher?
__________________________________________
If you remove all symbols from the 408 cipher that don’t represent the plaintext letter E, you end up with this sequence:
.
Notice how the sequence repeats perfectly 5 times. Clearly, the cipher author had a systematic method of assigning the different symbols for the plaintext letter E.
__________________________________________
In the 340 cipher, the symbols ,
, and
repeat with the following pattern:
.
There is a strong pattern there, suggesting that the symbols represent the same underlying plaintext letter. (link to this sequence)
__________________________________________
Sometimes it’s helpful to look at other repeated patterns besides n-grams. For example, these similar sequences both appear in the 340 cipher:
and
.
Similar partially repeating sequences are also found in the 408 cipher:
,
and
.
This kind of stuff makes me think there is still a real message hidden somewhere in the 340.

Let me know if you have any trouble with the tool, or if you have any suggestions for improvements. Thanks!

Interesting find…obviously Z did not just shuffle his letters with symbols but had sort of ‘system’ when deciding which symbol shall be used for his ‘E’.
Later this structure might have mutated by the cipher mechanism, however we could learn from this method when trying to crack the 340. Indeed the symbols in the beginning of the cipher are somehow less frequent in the middle (or end) of the cipher and vice versa.
For myself at the moment I try to start with solving a structure beginning in line 17, letter 7 of the 340 cipher as there is a high frequency of some symbols – four symbols make 11 letters of this 18-letter part of the 340-cipher:
Some possible solutions for this cipher have not yet led to a further progress in cipher solving, however do some words like pressroom, crossroad, passport etc. make some nice matches, however worthless until we can make further progress with the rest of the cipher. If someone wants my tool to use as a basis, please don´t hesitate to contact me with pm.

I am SO not a code person, but I dabble. This should be a good way to mess around with stuff. Thanks!!!

Doranchak,
you have a great site and I found it very interesting where Z may have taken one of his ‘cribs’ (sentences) from:
Title: The Mountains of California, Author: Muir, John, 1838-1914
Excerpt:
…who chanced to be crossing the range in winter. Man is the most dangerous enemy of all, but even from him our brave..
Fits quite well to ‘Man is the most dangerous animal of all‘…AND the book is related to the Mountains of California, with hiking and forest information.
I am quite sure that Z may have read this book. It can be found here:

‘Peek through the pines’ gets another meaning with this book, too. In it, about 20 different types of pine trees are described and documented as well.

Fabulous work, doranchak.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels hindered trying to express a cipher idea and trying to describe "that capital I thingy with the curvy bottom and a dot on the right" and I tend to ignore ideas that aren’t posted visually because it’s just too much work to think about.
I think this can really halp to express observations in a much clearer manner. Thanks for all of your good work! :sunny:

Not to mention heavy rain and flooding…
Chapter 11 – The River Floods
EDIT:
There is more to this. John Muir founded the Sierra Club. He was a naturist, preservationist, often lived for lengths of time on his own in the wilderness. In addition he ‘believed his mission was "…saving the American soul from total surrender to materialism."
In other words, a lot in common with Ted Kaczynski. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ted looked up to him and even read that book.

DAVE,
THANKS FOR ANOTHER GREAT CIPHER TOOL. ALL OF US HERE APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND EFFORT.
I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE Z340 HOOKS FOR A WHILE NOW. I BELIEVE I HAVE DISCOVERED SOMETHING INTERESTING 3 WEEKS AGO…
YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE 4TH LINE ON BOTH THE Z340 AND THE 408.
THE Z9WONE SEQUENCE IS VERY INTERESTING HOW LONG HAS THAT BEEN KNOWN…
