Just watched the feature. Indeed there might be some clues regarding Z in the movie, which he might had recognized:
– Ammo brand ‘Super X’ was given to police officers, same ammo Z had used at least once
– ‘Kid’ is twice recording his own voice, once in a recording booth and the other time in the villa of a rich man (‘magnetic tape’)
– A ‘Philipps 66’ logo is well seen on the airport building, right before Kid enters the airplane (map cipher)

Are you referring to the film released in 1973.
I don’t think QT is suggesting that Z was inspired by the movie (which would be impossible, given the chronology), but rather that he may have recognized various elements he had already used – and that this somehow prompted him to write the Citizen card.
Which works, I suppose. Apart from magnetic tape. That was ’78. Or not at all, depending on what one believes.
