Hi…

few days ago I went for BBQ to a friend of mine. This guy owns some guns and showed around some different bullets

– a 9mm
– a caliber .22
– a caliber .45

In fact I was really surprised of how different they were in size! Always had thought they are quite close to each other…opposite! For all who don’t know:

– The 9mm looks reallly slim..even more slim than a drinking straw, approximately 1/2 Inch in length.
– The .22 looks like a typical bullet as we know it from e.g. movies and police guns, approximately double as big as the 9mm
– The .45 is even thicker and about two to three times as long as the other two..reminds of a machine gun or rifle bullet

So if we look back to the crimes, with a 9mm Z had used a very small bullet. Rather not supposed to kill immediately, if at all. It might have been the reason why not all victims had died, also why he had used many shots. Also it appears to be unlikely to fix a flashlight onto such a small pistol.

Other crimes, such as with a .22 or bigger are more focussed on killing then, imo.

I think you may have the .22 and the 9mm mixed up.
(The 9mm would measure .35). So .22 is the smallest, then 9mm, then .45.

Yep. For sure.

When I was in the navy – seems like a life time ago, so I guess I’m getting old – I had a drill sergeant (or something of the sort – it wasn’t the US navy) who was a bit of a gun freak.

Which generally is not a good sign, in my personal experience. But as it turned out, he was alright – and he had access to the whole arsenal at our base in addition to being the owner of a bunch of pretty unusual firearms himself.

So, after having befriended him, after a fashion, I used to go shooting with him from time to time – using all kinds of very odd weapons and calibers from different eras.

I remember being struck by how many both non-standard and downright strange calibers that were available – but, of course, the main thrill for me was when I got to fire an old musket (missed the target by a…mile), the old Peacemaker (which was surprisingly easy to fire, in terms of recoil and such), and a Walther PPK (the James Bond gun – with which I didn’t do too badly, actually).

And…yes, sorry – that was pretty irrelevant, but Talon is obviously right, from .22 via 9mm to .45.

.22 caliber bullets were also made in low velocity. Sort of sub sonic to reduce noise it also took away its impact but at close range it still performed OK. ….Lots of people have died because of the .22 but lots survive. Not powerful but still effective. Usually if it entered the skull it would stay in not powerful enough to exit, again depending on distance. In the body it damages but usually needs to hit a major organ heart or liver or artery. Not a big exit wound unless using a hollow point bullett. It was usually the calibre of choice for small game (rabbits) or target shooting ( cheap) .. No good for larger game as it would not put them down humanly, not that I think there is a humane shooting of an animal. That’s what I know on RIFLE .22 as my country has zero hand guns in the public domain. And now we have zero automatic rifles and semi automatic rifles.
