Here we go with the easiest way to catch the Zodiac:
On both, December 10 and 12, there was an ad in the Vallejo Times Herald. It said:
"Betty Lou, please let me help you. Call me collect anytime after 6pm or on weekends. Janet White (916) 925 7339"
Some thoughts about that:
– the ads were placed twice, therefore somehow ‘urgent’
– the ads were directed towards the Vallejo, not e.g. SF public
– only limited, if not few or only one, ‘Betty Lou’s living in Vallejo
– ad text sort of mysterious, name most likely a fake name
– availability out of working hours only
– Betty Lou Jensen still alive at that time, however dead one week later
– no other Z victims publicly known so far at all
– words such as ‘collect’ used as in other Z communications
One week later, she is dead. Shot while dating another man.
Assuming the ad was meant to be for BLJ, these ads seem to have been preactions of her – not yet known to happen – murder. If her killer wanted to be called by her, the number must have been his correct one (spare time=private). No issue to not use a real number as there was no homicide yet and possibly not yet planend (‘weekendS’).
No matter if the name is fake or not, the number must have been correct. However, so far, unidentified due to the fake name.
We should find this particular phone number in a 1968 Vallejo phone book, which should contain no more than say 20,000 names. This could be our suspect no. one, the killer of BLJ.

The phone number 916-925-7339 WAS a working phone number in 1968. It was listed to an Allen S. White who resided at 2611 Norbert Way in N. Sacramento. He did indeed have a wife named Janet who, records indicate, was born on August 4, 1925.
Sadly, she passed away February 12, 1988.

A lot of people posted personal ads back in those days as alternate ways of speaking to people by using codes that the other person/people would understand. I wish I had copies of all the newspapers from the Zodiac areas from those days just to check into these things.
