Because every time I post a theory or idea about the case, it seems it’s already been discussed on this forum, or on other Zodiac forums, I have been checking out these other sites. I just saw a picture of the clothing the Zodiac was purported to have worn at one of the killings. They show a nice jacket made by Derby of San Francisco. That was one of the outfits he wore. Derby still makes these jackets, and in fact the company uses better material blends then they did back in the 1960’s. They are very nice casual wear. I bought the same style jacket at my Acura dealer. They are navy blue with the TSX car and logo embroidered on the front. My dealership only had them made up with the new Acura TLX. I asked if they could make one up for my new TSX. Of course they did it for me, as they are very good. What I don’t understand is how the Zodiac could wear a nice pair of wool dress slacks and a Derby jacket, and then put on those stupid looking boots. It looks like hell. Who taught this guy to dress. The clothing makes the man they say. I would think a nice pair of italian slip ons is a better choice of footwear. Decent clothing with ridicules shoes doesn’t make sense, unless he stole the clothing.

Derby’s weren’t known as fine attire. :)

My Dad used to wear one to work–he was a pipefitter/boiler maker.

The Derby website shows them as somewhat of the fashion rave now. They look pretty good. It’s just like those jeans they sell with the holes in them already. They pay over $200 a pair for those designer jeans. But what you’re indicating is this was work apparel back in the 1960’s. Well I’m glad I got my jacket, and I like it better than the Zodiacs anyway. It’s the wool dress pants that just don’t fit.

I agree, the wool pants are odd — at least they seem so, looking back now. But if he were over age 30, it might seem quite normal for that generation. Tahoe, since your dad wore such a jacket in his trade, are you aware of whether the Derby might have also been a Navy trend? My dad wore a similar kind of jacket, he worked for the highway department for a time in the Bay area back in the late 50s.

I’ve been thinking of the uniqueness of the origin of the boots, along with the other military-related clues.

Oh forget about it, the price of good clothing is getting ridiculous. A decent pair of shoes is $200 these days. I’m talking Ecco, which are a good shoe. Allen Edmunds, which are made in the USA are $325 a pair. The thing is, good quality clothing lasts a long time because of the higher quality textiles they use. But hey, we want to look good, we want to look sharp and well squared away. So I guess we have to pay the price for style.

No idea murray. I would say "no", but that is just my take. Not from any personal knowledge. It just doesn’t seem like the garb they would wear, but like anything, it was probably just a personal preference when not in uniform.

Guilty. I had a black one in the 80’s when they got popular again, but I won’t be sharing the photo. ;)
