Just an interesting tidbit In the early sixties there were two musical groups called The Zodiacs. Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs was out of South Carolina- doo wop/R&B type music. ‘Stay was a hit.
Ian and the Zodiacs was a group from Liverpool, more like a Fab group-Beatles type.
The only indication that Zodiac had a penchant for music was The Mikado that I can think of.hmmm… Just trying to think outside the box.’
Didn’t Robert Hunter of the Grateful Dead also have some sort of side band called the Zodiacs or am I mistaken?

There was a "Zodiacs" band that featured some members of the Dead – but to my knowledge Hunter wasn’t in that band.
If I have my facts straight the interest in Hunter stemmed from a pretty spectacular mix-up, involving an address in Presidio Heights. I don’t remember the exact details – but this was discussed at length at Voight’s board. But the short version would be that nothing substantial links Hunter to the Z case.

He was familiar enough with The Beatles (blue meanies), but then again, who wasn’t? The Beatles had a huge influence on Manson Family, but I think they were more on Z’s periphery. Z seems to have more of a taste for opera. Although he was definitely influenced by pop/counter culture at the time, (Exorcist, badlands) he predominantly appears to react to it like an older person with more classical/ sophisticated, albeit macabre tastes.
I posted about this in another thread but Robert Hunter was not a member of the band known as the Zodiacs, an early incarnation of the Grateful Dead.

Here’s an old thread though discussing Robert Hunter as possible Zodiac POI. Keep in mind that there is another guy by the same name who has been presented as a POI as well and lived in the neighborhood of the Stine scene.

I don’t feel like reading that again, but I could have swore that Robert Hunter from Grateful Dead was the one who lived near the Stine murder but that he had moved in after it happened. Ah hell, I will read it again. I’m bored anyways.
PS, the Beatles suck!

Oy… Not sure you deserve a response based on your lousy musical tastes, ophion, but they are indeed two different guys named Robert Hunter.
Here’s an old discussion about the other Robert Hunter, who lived in the neighborhood of the Stine scene:
Another case connected to the ‘grateful dead’ band:
