Some of the comics from San Francisco in the late 60’s were very horrific and violent. I believe from my readings, that these type of comics, were first brought out around 1967. These comics are very bizarre. One great example are the comics by S. Clay Wilson. He is a very talented artist with quite a vivid imagination. Many of these works relate to slaves, torture, sex, violence, drugs, as well as a multitude of very strange goings on. These publications were printed right in San Francisco. They were sold on the streets at first, Another well known artist, R. Crump in fact sold his first underground magazines from a shopping cart in San Francisco. He sold many copies around Haight St. I can easily picture the zodiac reading these underground comix books. The zodiac had some very odd preoccupations with many of the themes in these books.

The back of CJB tablet I found ,had 12? sketches or cartoonish drawings (in fountain pen) of Z’s victims crime scenes ,the last one seemed to be CJB ,which I remember some the drawings were of good quality especially for ink, like he was a trained artist .
One or two were drawn like in a Rat Fink style which is harder to do :(
So your post holmes makes a lot of sense to me it could be that he studied with these SF artists for a time or just bought there work to studie it.

I used to read those comics back in the 70’s. I like the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comics, the best. I just thought of the horrible stuff that the zodiac wrote about in his correspondence. Somewhere he got those crazy ideas. You can see the connection clearly as well. These comics were not main stream in the least. My question at this time is, what is a CJB tablet? I’m not familiar with it.

I
That’s good you found those old notebooks. You found them in Kansas too. These items seem to be an important lead, with ink drawings such as the ones you found, because of the fact that San Francisco was the home of these type of comics. Do you have some pictures of these drawings? I would like to see them if possible.

I of course did not take them from the spot I found them (I was unaware of much of the zodiac killer saga facts then) or you would have heard a great deal about it on the news .
I only really remember the last sketch of Cheri Bates I might try sketching it
yes I know it is important… others here ?

the sketch at that site ,I had done by an artist here , I sent a copy to Riverside PD
after a month I called them talking to a Det. Jim he listened saying they would look into it and get back to me .
2-3 days later he called me at 8:15 there time and was somewhat frantic wanting to know exactly where I found it by asking how far from one road it was ,I was trying to tell it from the video he was getting upset when I could not estimate how far it was as he decribed
also another cop seemed to be relaying what i said to another over the phone , I think it was KCPD or alike
I think they checked out that the tablet cover was like I said it was or they would not have done it . 2or 3 days after I found these things I went back and looked around for them .

Oh you should have taken them. Remember the old saying, finders keepers, losers weepers. If you find something, it by law, becomes yours. As long as you don’t tell anybody you’re in the clear. And I’m not talking about taking your neighbors lawn mower or bicycle, I’m talking about finding things like knapsacks in a wooded area, or bags of money. When you find these type of things it’s perfectly alright to claim it as yours. To the victor go the spoils.
