Cheri Jo Bates mother Irene was in a rest home at the time of her daughters murder.
Irene Bates died on July 4, 1969, the same day as the Blue Rock Springs attack.

Another coincidence
The major suspect in the case was Arthur Leigh Allen. In 1974, a young boy accused
Allen of molesting him. After a search warrant on Allen’s home & questioning by police
Allen was arrested & charged with Child Molestation/Oral Copulation on September 27, 1974,
exactly 5 years to the day, of the Lake Berryessa attack.
