Hi Guy’s,
At about 4am last night I hit post on response that has sparked a bit of controversy. I tried to apologize, but I keep getting SQL errors, so I’m starting a new thread before it get’s too crazy.
I’m really sorry to anyone that was offended by my use of the word "britishisms".
I pretty much knew when I hit post that it wasn’t right, but you know it was late and I basically thought "meh, to long to change it now, they know what I’m trying to say".
Anyway I wasn’t trying to suggest that I personally think everyone from the British Isles speaks like Kenneth Williams, I was trying to say that every pseudo-intellectual, egotistical-nerd wannabe since the dawn of time has been hijacking certain parts of their language (the upper class bits) to sound smart and sophisticated. Or at least what these individuals perceive as being part of it. That’s all. Sorry.
I’m English and haven’t taken offence. Vincent Price, Kjell Qvale and Melvin Belli exemplify the kind of class-superior types typical of the manner and use of Britishisms you describe. All, of course, non-Brits.
That’s very reasonable of you.
Also the Zodiacs interest in Melvin Belli is interesting, the Zodiac must have been attracted to some aspect of him.
Not to worry mate. I think I was probably being overly sensitive. Please don’t let it detract from the chain of thought you were going down as it is certainly interesting.
I put a response on the original thread. There were some points in my first post which got obscured in the offended bit, but I think are valid
Ive been designing a suitably z looking getup to come after thee for revenge at thou quip!
Z wasnt british. The letters are very american sounding to me. I suspect most ‘brits’ would agree.
One of the things i always thought interesting was that he mentions ‘salt beef’
Uncommon in california i believe? Very common in east london (where im from) and new york…
Btw. We never call ourselves brits. Ever in england. Its an americanism. Its not even a thing folks.
There is always someone to offend.
Most of us Americans have been influenced in one way, shape, or form, by European dialect and mannerisms. I don’t think Zodiac was any different.
That’s very reasonable of you.

Not really and Zodiac request F Lee Bailey first and then Melvin. He wanted attention and Melvin was the first to give him that.

Everyone I know calls themselves Brits instead of English.
As for the OP, don’t worry mate, we’re not the type to take offence over something like that. Some people look for things they can complain about, ignore anyone who takes offence.
I’m fond of you.
“Nobody called him Arthur.”
