Was Zodiac or zodiac’s in San Fransisco for the oct. 12 ,1969 Summer of Love Festival in Golden Gate park .
Was it a 3 day event with camping ? some websites show there was overnight camping .
Usually there are dozens of bands other than the headliners.over different days Saturday and Friday too. the posters indicate it was held in a meadows location of the park . At a very similar concert in May 25 in San Jose the attendence was 140K This may have been the best concert of the 60’s ( woodstock more of a great gathering, than concert) .
The park is less than a mile from the Stine killing to the South,with a bicycle it would take only 100 sec. to get there . once there with 20-50k people camping and not extactly police freindly ,the cops are not going in IMO . It is very possible he could have worked security there too. He would have to have known of it for sure . Geary st. the first main drag to the N he may have needed money for the concert and hatched the plan to rob Stine .

with the teardrop tree hole, mentions moons ,and is just very creepy , a place named black mountain nearby
wasn’t there a card drawn of a tree on a island thought to be at lake Berryessa ,that had nearly the same looking tree ?
it is a little similar to the 10/27/70 card from Z

Have the video images of this festival been studied? You are right about there being a possibility of a connection. Less than a mile from the 3day camp out/concert from the PH murder scene. The Zodiac always talks about buttons. Those hippies and so forth wear those buttons. I would bet the Zodiac went to that concert and maybe got in front of a camera. Maybe he wore a button of Zodiac and it can be seen on the films. Maybe the Zodiac was looking to rob the cabbie but the driver hadn’t much money. The question has been raised as to why he would be in that area. All his other known crimes were in rural areas. He was on his way to the concert perhaps.
I just took a look at SF map. Washington st ends at arguello blvd. one block from cherry. It appears possible that the killer was heading to Golden Gate Park. Maybe he planned on robbing the cabbie. Surely this killer did more than just murder. I’m sure a man as brazen as he was, was a master thief, a bank robber, kidnapper, a criminal that writes letters. Ransom notes and bank robbery demand letters. When he found the guy had only a few dollars on him, he went berserk on the guy.
It gives Z a way to be in the city undetected ,not having to register at a motel where a clerk could remember his face /name ,if he was from out of town .
There are members here that were in the Bay area in 69 Any Body back then remember this concert ?

I may be mistaken, but didn’t that link mention a poster of a 1966 concert that never happened? Perhaps there is mixup here on my part.

I checked a perpetual calendar and June 24th and 25th were on a Friday and Saturday in 1966. Ace said in his initial post that he thought the concert was in 1966 and it seems he is correct about that.
The 1967 perpetual calendar has June 24th and 25th being on a Saturday and Sunday. Since the poster for the Adobe Creek Lodge concert specifically says the concert was to be on a Friday and Saturday then the year was 1966.
The blogger that TF linked to seems to be wrong about which year the concert was to have taken place. The Monterey Pop Festival WAS June 16-18, 1967 so the blogger totally screwed up about the Adobe Creek Lodge concert being the week after the Pop festival. It was to have been the year before, if it took place. Who knows at this point!

The other concert apparently took place ,Although a concert with some of the bands scheduled for 24,25 Aug. at the Filmore was cancelled or moved to the Oct. 12 69 GG park

once in the venue, imagine the stray couples he could hunt with the nearly silent 9mm , there had to be some late night young couples rondevues away from the stages / concert venue. it is a huge, hilly park all the way to the sea . he could have got his dozen easy IMO. It may have been the intended target

That would be my take on this situation. He was passing though Presidio Heights in his cab ride to Golden Gate Park. He typically used his own vehicle presumably. He wanted to sneak down near the ocean and walk down to the park, knowing fair well that those hippies and such, were going to be camping out all over the place. I do not have a real theory as to why he killed the poor cabbie. It makes no sense to me.

That’s an interesting theory about the house, Ace. You think he was trying to make a statement with his choice of areas to kill. Kill a cabbie in front of a prestigious mansion in the heart of San Francisco. In fact in the middle of the "establishment" stronghold of Presidio Heights. Then proceed to the free concert in Golden Gate Park. If this theory was possible than we have a transformed killer. He would have evolved into something more than a typical serial killer.

That mansion has a big back yard and a long garage a place Z could if need be hide or escape to then from ,if caught shooting Paul.
As I said previously stealing the cab and acting as the cab driver to pick up fares and murder them then dump them ,would have been an easy way he could have gotten the dozen people he said he would murder over the weekend .
We here have the Russell Stover Candies mansion every one knows what it looks like cause they have been by it. so that fabulous SF mansion would forever be tied to Zodiac .
I don’t think that 69 concert was free ,the 1967 human be- in was a free thing talking the issues with Jefferson airplane performing
