Why do you think "zodiac" didn’t contacted the authorities or wrote a letter to the newspapers after the murder of David Faraday and Bettly Lou Jensen in December 20th, 1968 if he was indeed Cheri Jo Bates’ murderer who was the author behind the "confession letter" in 1966/7?
Maybe Faraday wasn’t afraid of him due to his short height and did managed to soccer punch him as suggested by some before being shot dead and he was too ashamed it happened to him so he sat quiet for almost 7 months and had to "brush his pride" with the Blue Rock Springs 4th of July, 1969 murder of Darlene Ferrin and injury of Michael Megeau?

Which brings us again to the possibility Robert Tarbox was right about him attending the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo.
It doesn’t seems like "zodiac" was the actual murderer of Cheri Jo Bates, he probably just wrote the "confession letter" and other letters to the police, Bates’ father and the Enterprise newspaper. There was no support for his claim the knife broke inside her body – as far as I know. he probably began his actual killings in Lake Herman Road and was so scared it took him 7 months to break the silence when he attacked on Blue Rock Springs. I believe her killer was "Bill Barnett", her ex-boyfriend, who was abusive towards her and violent, he also claimed he "snuffed her" that very night to his friends who drove him to look for something in the crime scene.

What then do you make of the fact that "Barnett" was not a match to the DNA on CJB?
There is no doubt "Barnett" was involved, that’s why he panicked and asked his friend to drive him there at around 1 or 2 AM to look for something and this explains his "broken-spirit/what took you so long?" attitude in the FBI interrogation. he may had an accomplice who was that smoking student who was standing near the crime scene around 9:30 PM that night who may be the source for the DNA found on the victim (skin tissue and hairs) – yet I’d doubt it was the unpopular kid "zodiac" should be, "Barnett" and Cheri Jo Bates were popular kids and I can’t imagine him "hiring" a nerd he may bullied in high school to be his "wingman" in this murder ("she dumped me for some City Boy who is now her fiancé and flipped you off for years in high school, let’s be friends now and kill her" – not likely), only a close person who he can trust on.
