Here ya go DoctorS, this is a link to Unmasked at google books. Click on pages 398 and 400 for Graysmith’s account of the Ophthalmologist and his son. He doesn’t really say Zodiac’s gait was lumbering, he says he wasn’t nimble and was kind of clumsy.

Thank you. Just got back from my trip and was wondering how I botched the dentist thing. So…I looked at Graysmith’s original Zodiac book and lo and behold…p. 65 of the paperback he says it was a dentist and his son. I guess somewhere in the span of 15-20 years he changed it to ophthalmologist. Just glad I wasn’t totally losing my mind. The hair went first but the mind will surely follow suit soon.

LOL You need to watch out for those morphing dentists, DoctorS!

While the first Zodiac book Graysmith wrote is filled with pseudonyms it is really more accurate than the second book.

Here’s my headscratcher: how does an officer who allegedly observed a suspect for a minute or less determine he is of Welsh ancestry? And what exactly does Welsh ancestry look like (and the answer can’t be Welsh ancestry looks like Welsh ancestry or the Zodiac composite)?

Fouke has explained this. He is of “Welsh ancestry” himself, and apparently the man’s physique (stout or whatnot) reminded him of a typical Welsh coal miner. To go from such an impression to actually describing him, in an official memo, as he does – is ridiculous, of course.

But there you go. There are many ridiculous details in the Zodiac case which are just that. They don’t mean much. This one has led to insane theories of all kinds, mainly because people aren’t aware of Fouke’s explanation. Bottom line: He had no reason to think the guy was of Welsh ancestry, he just used that term in an attempt to describe the man’s physical appearance – there’s nothing more to it.

in This is the Zodiac Speaking, Hartnell mentions Z having an unusual walk on first approach- lumbering over to them or something –
can’t remember the exact words but just watched this last night so I know he said it…
was then pretty intrigued when Fouke said it just minutes later in same doc.

Dunno what to make of Fouke… first he lays out an amazing description of the man they see, but then he says they slowed down but were still " rollin’ " by the man, but only saw him for " 5,10,15 seconds "
really hedging his bets there…

then he and pelisetti disagree over whether Fouke asked the man any questions…

I guess right now I’m still inclined to believe that was in fact Z.

What evidence is there that Z lied about speaking to a cop?

How many cops were out that night scoping things out after Stine? Do we really know?
Even if it wasn’t Fouke and Zelms.

Also, I think it’s crazy to say he couldn’t have gotten away on foot.

I just watched the entire section for lake beryessa in this is the zodiac speaking.

I could not find hartnell saying anything about the manner in which the zodiac walked. Do you know the time in the film when this is stated?

I transcribed it earlier, but lost the file. I have the whole documentary transcribed, ill have to look it up.

Were you thinking of fouke saying that zodiac had a "loping gait" or that he was "shuffling" or "lumbering"?

Evidence that z lied about talking to a cop? I guess there is no evidence, though in a letter zodiac claimed that this happened:

ps. 2 cops pulled a goof abot 3 min after I left the cab. I was walking down
the hill to the park when this cop car pulled up + one of them called me over +
asked if I saw anyone acting suspicious or strange in the last 5 to 10 min + I
said yes there was this man who was runnig by waveing a gun & the cops peeled
rubber + went around the corner as I directed them + I disappeared into the
park a block + a half away never to be seen again

For what it’s worth: might not an exaggerated walking style be assumed in order to divert attention from the walker’s appearance?

I’ll try and rewatch – it was definitely in there… if I remember correctly it was sort of an aside, like not spoken directly to the camera…
