Cecilia and Bryan, shortly before being attacked, visited the rammage market of the Seventh Day Adventists in St. Helena, 1777 Main Street. This thread is to post info on connections between the Z case and members of the SDA.

‘Old Soul’ mentions that in the Loma Linda (LA area, Cecilia Shepard) SDA church a guest book was signed by Z.

The link works for me. It’s a bunch of posts by people who have only the barest knowledge of the Zodiac crimes and a lot of misinformation. There’s a rather nasty post about Bryan Hartnell, too.

Yeah, no offense to those involved but I too got the feeling of misinformation. Worse than that though, I found myself wondering if that could be the future for all Zodiac boards the further we get from the events and those directly involved and through years of unshackled rumors and hearsay.

It’s a testament to and the reason why we are such sticklers for accuracy and why we all should try to be.

Looking at an SDA angle isn’t a bad thing though. Maybe others have tackled it before? I know I’ve pondered myself if there could be anything there to look at and why not, it was part of the victims back story. Just maybe not using that site as a starting point lol, in general I mean. The signing of the guestbook is an intriguing statement but tbf it sounds, on the surface like an urban legend at best and at worst it actually is in there and it was some kids with a sick SOH. Seeing the book would certainly help in reaching that conclusion. Problem is that not only does it sound like legend but it’s not even being relayed first hand. Not really a good indicator of it being anything of value much less real.

Thank you so much Quicktrader for that information:)!

may I ask, how/wherefrom did you get the information that:
"Cecilia and Bryan, shortly before being attacked, visited the rammage market of the Seventh Day Adventists in St. Helena, 1777 Main Street."

And my question is particulary concerning that it was at the Seventh Day Adventists church at the 1777 Main Street St. Helena address.

I have looked for this info for many years, but noone have ever been able to figure out where it was that CS and BH was at a rammage market , where BH bought a TV-set that he had to drive back home to his college and CS had to wait for BH at that rammage market due to that his car was too small for both TV and CS, and after that they went to Lake Beryessa.

I have always suspected that Zodiac might have seen/met CS and BH there at that rammage market and selected them to be his next victims.

Who knows, Z may even have spoken with them, or just with CS while BH had left to bring the TV-set he bought back to his college?

BH said, after the attack, that it was like he had heard Zodiacs voice before…

Hi, english is not my first language so please bear with me :)

Yes I’ve wondered about that too and where it could have possibly been, if a reality. The rummage sale was one I thought of too.

What if Zodiac decided to choose his victims at Main Street, and then also announced that he had killed them from a payphone on Main Street !

1777 Main Street St Helena ( rammage market of the Seventh Day Adventists church)
1231 Main Street in Napa (Napa Car Wash/payphone )

The rammage market is mentioned in the police report on page 4. Don’t know if the address of the SDA has changed.

The first round-faced guy I clicked, G. Ayson, can be placed to Lodi, near Stockton. I’ll check more in the Pacific Union, Angwin, yearbook I guess. George is a common name, however a George was mentioned before. There also is an A. Bishop, a last name that we also had discussed earlier.

But you posted that: "Cecilia and Bryan, shortly before being attacked, visited the rammage market of the Seventh Day Adventists in St. Helena, 1777 Main Street"

But the police report does not say anything about WHERE that rummage sale was located other than it was in St Helena, nothing about that it was at the Seventh Day Adventists (Church) in St. Helena, neither at the address you provided , so I´m confused now :?:

One thing makes me think that the rummage sale may NOT have been at the SDA church in St. Helena. Saturday is the Sabbath for the SDA and as such no working is allowed. It’s a lot of work to put on a rummage sale and any business transactions, exchanging of monies, would be considered work. Maybe we should try to find a precedent for any SDA church putting on a rummage sale at the close of their Saturday services. If there was such a sale it wouldn’t have started until after their services were over around noon time.

I just did a Google search for "Seventh Day Adventist rummage sale" and could not find any SDA church that did their sales on a Saturday. Many were held on Sundays but other days of the week were listed, too. But not one single Saturday! So I think whoever claimed that Cecelia and Bryan were at a SDA church for that rummage sale does not know what they are talking about.

EDITED to add:

Most rummage, garage and yard sales are advertised in the classified section in local newspapers. Getting a copy of the local paper, The St. Helena Star for that week could narrow down where Cecelia and Bryan went that day. The "Star" is a weekly newspaper that comes out on Thursdays. Contact the St. Helena library for a copy of their classifieds for that week.

Let’s examine the post that QT was interested in, in the first place.

Old Soul is ambiguous about which murder her mother was at the church to have been there to sign the guest book. Old Soul thinks it was 1968 or 1969. But the poster does cite the murder of the RCC student. So let’s assume for the moment that it was Cheri Jo’s murder that they were referring to in the post.

First of all Cheri Jo’s murder happened on a Sunday not a Saturday which is the SDA Sabbath. So if the mother was at the church it most likely would have been the day before Cheri’s murder, not "that day." Furthermore there was no known connection between Cheri Jo’s murder and the Zodiac until October 1969 and at that time the connection was only known to LE. It was not until a year later, November 1970, that Paul Avery went public with that revelation. Are we to believe that the mother recalls who had signed the guest book four years after the fact? Would anyone have recalled that Zodiac signed the guest book in 1966? How would they have known it was Zodiac who signed the guest book since we do not know who Zodiac is unless he signed it Zodiac? In 1966, to the best of anyone’s knowledge, the killer had not adopted the Zodiac persona.

Cheri Jo was Catholic not SDA and the SDA church did not come into play in any fashion until the Lake Berryesssa attack.

If the poster is talking about the Lake Berryessa attack and murder of Cecelia which did take place on a Saturday then we have to consider how Zodiac was able to sign the guest book and then hightail it up to Lake Berryessa in time to have committed his attack. SDA services are pretty standard. First there is bible study starting around 9:00 – 9:30 AM and then the actual service begins 10:30 – 10:45 AM with services ending at around 12:00 – 12:30 PM. There is no way Zodiac could have travelled the distance between Loma Linda and Berryessa in that short amount of time.

So, I call BS on this poster’s post. It just does not make any sense to me.
