Hi guys,
In 2001 I put the idea online that it might be possible that Zodiac was inspired by some of the first comics Batman ever appeared in.
Detective Comics 28,29,30,31,32 from 1939 show a lot of similarities between Batman’s mode of operating and Zodiac 25 years later.
– Batman wore a dark costume with his symbol on it during "attacks"
– He was chased by the police and sometimes mocked them.
– he made telephone calls to the police
– He sent letters about his "crimes" signed with his symbol
– his 2nd to 5th victim were taken by him by fire, by knive, by gun and by rope
-he attacked a cabdriver
Note: Batman was a coldblooded killer in the beginning of his career as comic vigilante.
So all this in the above I found in 5 comics that belonged to one comic title and also were seen in episodes that were consecutively.
I think there is a big chance Zodiac was inspired by comics (maybe he read them in his youth?) and if he was I think the 1939 Batman could be a good candidate.
In the 1966 Batman episode "The Minstrel’s Shakedown," the villain identifies himself as "The Minstrel" by singing to the tune of "A wand’ring minstrel.

Like.
If you look at the Z13 the last four letters have some resemblance to bits of the word batman.

The riddler/batman reference the first time I saw it was at Richard Grinell’s website, it refers to an FBI file regarding 2 coded messages between navy men, I think these are genuine zodiac correspondence,
Here’s the FBI file E&B. November 19th 1969.
