The four dots always reminded of a "Masonic cipher" (pigpen cipher) I have found other symbology that is reminiscent of a "templar cipher" as well.
I doubt this was zodiac’s intention, but who knows. I actually think that it is amazing that zodiac created something(s) that so many people can pull so much out of, I mean, everybody can make these intricate connections spanning various cultures and points in history in regards to some cryptic symbol (which in reality was probably created simply because zodiac liked the way it looked, but who knows, perhaps there really are connections and leads that can be derived from analysis of these cryptic potential leads.
EBEORIETEMETHHPITI is another one, so many complex and diverse meanings have been attributed to it. I think it’s kind of cool that zodiac could create something that so many people can analyze and each can come up with a viable set of possible connections and meanings.

I apologize for straying slightly off topic, but Speaking of generating several meanings in regards To a cryptic symbol or set of letters, there were some interesting interpretations of "EBEORIETEMETHHPITI" in the police reports.
I just wonder how Z could hope anyone could find the key to all his nonense codes, symbols. All his cyphers after the first one and all the following riddles seem way too complicated to be unsolved, so what was his actual point? To have a little fun while the police tried to make sense out of his gibberish codes? Maybe. But if not, he must have ben very frustrated that his mind games could not go on because they were just ridiculously complicated, if not downright impossible to solve.
