I think the Batman-Zodiac connection is a very interesting one.
The idea that Z was inspired by comic books – more so than "higher" forms of art – seems intuitively right to me. There is something puerile if not positively childish about Z.
Not long ago I read an old, old archived thread on Voigt’s board dealing with the live action TV series (the campy one w/ Adam West). There’s definitely a possible Z connection there too: there’s even an episode called "The Zodiac Crimes" (aired in Jan 1967) in which Joker commits (or intends to commit) twelve crimes, one for each sign of the Zodiac.
