Hi,
DNA of Zodiac should be available. IMO the LA-Times letter has an envelope which might be full of it – if Z had licked this envelope by himself, which is quite likely the case.
Is there any possibility to make a request to extract that DNA from the envelope? Obviously there is..Swiss company is offering it for approximately USD 500, with a success rate of est. 25%. The LA Times letter has a huuuge envelope with a broaaad licking area…so I could imagine that it might be possible.

I think the ties that bound the Lake Berryessa victims could also be a source of DNA. Zodiac may have not been as careful about touching the binding(rope) and it may have been in his possession for a long time. Where as I think he was careful not to leave fingerprints on paper.
The Best Mystery Is An Unsolved Mystery….
Napa quite recently received funding for testing old cases and DNA, etc. and the Zodiac case was one of them. Nada.
That clothes line was just handled too much and would have been of zero use in any investigation.
Then I hope the huuge envelope would give a result. Nice seeing that Napa is still sticking with the case.

That’s what I’d say..IF there is DNA somewhere it might be
– stuff under the nails of CJB
– envelopes (biggest appears to be LA times letter
rather than stamps (eventually someone else, e.g. post office clerk or ropes (as touch dna is not working that well with such old stuff, so far).
So the question is – does Napa check that saliva under the envelope..?

They do have an abundance of cheri jo bates’ murderer’s dna. I always thought her murderer couldn’t be Z because no one in LE said they matched dna extracted from envelopes. In fact Riverside seemed quite adament it wasn’t Z who killed Bates. Someone recently told me however that there are two different types of dna, and they cant be compared. I don’t know much about DNA, so that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Maybe someone can explain it in layman’s terms for me.
As I understand it they have a partial DNA profile/sample believed to be Zodiac’s. This was lifted from an envelope back in 2002. It can’t be used to confirm Z’s identity – but it can be used to rule out suspects.
If they do have an abundance of DNA from the Bates case, one would think elimination in relation to the partial Z profile was a priority – but I’ve never seen it confirmed anywhere that Bates’ killer doesn’t match the partial Z DNA.
