…in his letter, Z claims to having killed 10 people so far.
In his bus bomb letter, on November 9, 1969, he claimed seven people…so there may have been three victims from November 1969 to April 1970.

In the Melvin Belli on December 20th 1969, he declares a search for a ninth and possibly tenth victim, bearing in mind he had attacked three couples at this point, possibly his next victims may have followed suit. on February 21st 1970, two months later John Franklin Hood and Sandra Garcia were murdered in Santa Barbara. Two months further on the My Name is Cipher arrived, declaring 10 victims. Only number 8 may be missing from this period.

Ok so we get closer to it…I got the following cases:

– Leona Roberts, 16, female, San Francisco/Walnut Creek, was working at the Whitefront store in Pleasant Hill, 560 Contra Costa Blvd.. She was abducted from her home on a Monday, later found with her wrists being bound inside the Bolinas Lagoon, near Point Reyes. Interesting that she had her ‘beauty school smock’ put off shortly before, so possibly her killer met her shortly before and then had followed her to her place.

– Claudia Leigh Smith, James Sharp, Doreen Gaul, Joel Dean Pugh – all cases in Los Angeles (or London) area, rather to be connected to Charles ‘nutty’ Manson or Bruce ‘nevert-to-be-free’ Davis than Zodiac.

– Raphael ‘Ralph’ Norbert Colar, 56, male, Vallejo, assistant cook and ‘veteran merchant seaman’ aboard the SS California, was shot in front of his home. He was killed on a Monday. A negro male was seen leaving the shooting so Z rather to be ruled out. Nevertheless: A Vallejo case with merchant seaman (Tarbox) connection. And he was shot with a 9mm, same caliber Paul Stine was shot with. I wonder if Z – again – told the police officers that there was a black man with a gun waving who ran around the corner…?

– Betty Ruth Aardsma, 22, female, Pennsylvania, a student stabbed inside the Library on a Friday. Single stab wound into her heart with a 3.25 inch knife similar to the one used in the CJB case, which also happened close to a library. Men left the library saying ‘Somebody better help that girl’. She was wearing a red dress and in fact, so far, it even could have been a suicide (never thought about that one, hugh? Was the weapon ever found?). The red dress might have been a Z phantasy (desktop poem).

– Elaine Louise Davis, 17, female, Lafayette/Walnut Creek, a college student of Pleasant Hill High School (reminds both, the case of Patricia King who was sexually assaulted on a Thursday as well as the one of Leona Roberts, mentioned above, who had worked in Pleasant Hill). She disappeared on a Monday while baby sitting at Pioneer Avenue in Walnut Creek.

A short side note: Beginning from the 5th of July, in the whole second half of the year 1969 there was only one person reported missing (Ann Bernice Duncan).

So one of the above, if Z did not go to Hong Kong to do his killings, is a Zodiac victim. It therefore even would make sense to compare the 9mm of Raphael Norbert Colar to at least rule that one out. If there wasn’t a Tarbox talking about his merchant seaman, my bet would be Leona Roberts or Elaine Louise Davis.

Therefore, if the 9mm is not a ballistic match AND Zodiac having killed ‘in the area’, he might have visited the Whitefront store OR had trespassed the property where Elaine Louise Davis was baby sitting.

Let’s assume the latter to be true..what if her killer was a neighbor? Indeed she had disappeared in a short time of 45 minutes while her mother had left..and the neighbors, a couple with two kids, left the area shortly after the abduction.

Update: in one of the articles her little sister said ‘They took her away. She didn’t want to go. She was crying.‘

Elaine Davis was member of the ‘Camp fire girls’, a boy/girlscout organization. Also, in one of the articles ( http://www.zodiackillersite.com/viewtop … f=37&t=101) it is mentioned that a Richard Conston may have seen her inside a car.

ANOTHER THEORY:

Leona Roberts and Elaine Davis were both found nude, one floating in the sea and the other was found in a lagoon. Both were abducted from home, a modus operandi quite different from Z. None of them had been shot or stabbed. Instead leaving the bodies where they were, there apparently was a sexual motivation and had both been ‘transported’ to a another place. Both were less than 20 yrs. old. Both locations are next to the Senator E. Boatwright Highway.

A possible third (?) victim could therefore have been Cosette Ann Ellison, 15, who had also disappeared from Lafayette, later to be found in a ravine – nude.

Then we got Patricia King, 15, from Lafayette / Walnut Creek / Pleasant Hill area, too. Similar to the ‘belt’ used in the Leona Roberts case, she was strangled with her leggings then to be found in a rural gully near Diablo Valley football stadium – naked, too.

Maureen Patricia Field, 19, Lafayette area, finally found in a ravine off Morgan Territory Road, same area where Cosette Ann Ellison was found – nude. This time, however, there was a hint – Philip Joseph Hughes gave her a ride.

As you can see, those cases appear to be rather sexually motivated young teen girl murders. ASSUMING that those crimes had been committed by someone else than Zodiac (e.g. Philip Hughes) AND that Zodiac had killed in the area AND that he did not shoot Raphael Colar AND that he was not connected to the Manson/Scientology murders – then there is nobody left that he could have killed! At least nobody we know from…

I wonder if a ballistic analysis between Paul Stine and Raphael Colar’s murder projectiles made sense? Or if there was any other victim, Z could have been responsible for?
