| I just created a new Youtube video, my first ever here- I have always wanted to see a Cheri Jo Bates video, and I also chose to show the possible connection between her and Ross Sullivan, who I think is a strong suspect in the letter writing campaign in the Bates case, as well as the zodiac case. I was surprised there is not more in the way of Cheri Bates videos on youtube. | David Oranchak gave a talk at the 2015 Cryptologic History Symposium on October 22, 2015, and posted a ‘youtube’ video named "The Zodiac Ciphers – What do we know, and when do we stop trying to solve them?" In the video, he showed three ciphers created by his encryption algorithm that are similar to the Z340 (21:03 time into the video) , and the plain text is from literary sources: 1) Gilbert & Sullivan 2) Count of MonteCristo 3) Les Miserables The video states that all three ciphers have similar characteristics of the Z340. I have tried using the ZKDecrypto hill-climber program on the MonteCristo cipher, and it was unsuccessful in decrypting it. I have written my own hill-climbing program which can solve the Z408 in less than two minutes, but is unable to solve the MonteCristo cipher. A few questions I have: 1) are the 3 ciphers shown in David Oranchak’s youtube video legitimate ciphers? 2) why can’t the ZKDecrypto hill-climber software decode them? 3) if ZKDecrypto can’t solve these ciphers, why would it be able to solve the Z340? | |||||

| Someone told me there is a way to get an IP address from a youtube post. Is this true? Not sure exactly what they told you, but in my experience when someone has discovered a brilliant way to get a user’s IP address, it turns out what they’ve actually discovered is that you can – very easily! – get the IP of the server your computer/device is connected to. Which tells you absolutely nothing – other than the fact that you’re currently browsing YouTube, or Zodiackillersite, or whatever the case may be. I’m sure you can get an individual user’s IP through some hackery or other, but even that isn’t very useful in terms of tracking down the person. If the idea is to ascertain whether said user is identical to another user (e.g. someone on this site), however, I suppose you might narrow that down to a fair degree – even though most regular, private Internet subscribers do not have static IPs (meaning that "dimwit666"’s IP may show up as A today and B tomorrow even though he’s not doing anything actively to make it so). what norse said. i have nearly twenty years in IT. the only ip you’re getting by watching a youtube video is the ip address of the specific video serving server to which you’re connected. the upload process (where the uploader’s IP is involved) is an entirely separate process on an entirely separate set of machines. it’s possible to get some metadata from an image or video but i’m pretty sure youtube strips that information when a video is uploaded (they also convert uploaded videos to a format that uses an algorithm to minimize size while maximizing quality). metadata would be stuff like the camera used, date the image or video was taken, sometimes the geographical location where it was taken, etc. | |||||

| I do not know if either of these men are the men in the video, but they match some aspects of the description. These men are not being accused of anything. Even if one or both of these men are the men in the video, they may well have reasonable explanations for their actions. Hopefully the FBI will release today the actual images from the video which are said to be very clear. Based on the little I know, I think this man is less likely to be the man on the FBI video, but he does match some elements of the description, he has a black jacket and grey hood, cannot see if he is wearing a hat. I think he is likely a victim, not involved in the bombing: This man matches many elements of the description of the man on the video, he has backward white cap, black jacket and grey hood, but he may have no involvement. | |||||

| BLUE JACKET MAN CLEARED, NO INVOLVEMENT IN BOMBING, HE HAS COME FORWARD TO IDENTIFY HIMSELF. It appears the FBI wanted to talk to them as POI’s and/or witnesses, but it seems blue jacket man is CLEARED he is a local and known. White capped man not yet cleared, there appears to be some confusion, I have read a report saying blue jacket man claims not to know him, another says he did. We still have the FBI saying they have a video of a man with a white hat on backwards in a black jacket with a grey hoodie who is a POI in as he is seen dropping a bag where the bomb went off and talking on a cell phone going from bomb site one to bomb site two. I guess this must be a different white capped man with a bag? Damn I want so bad for the bomber(s) to be caught. Clearing people helps. I just hope the video image is in fact as damning as the FBI seems to suggest, or at least the media reports of what the FBI says. I hope the people who did this are caught. I still believe the public can help, not by profiling or accusing anyone, but by giving images, information and ideas to the authorities. This what they are asking the public to do. Apparently the FBI still wants to talk to the man they see in the video with a backwards white hat, grey hoodie and black jacket. The media is saying that the FBI is looking for a white male wearing a white hat backwards, with a grey hood and dark jacket. The media reports say a man with this description is seen dropping a bag at one bomb site, walking away to the other and talking on a cell phone. Pictures show two men who may meet this description. .These men may not be the one on the video. They may have nothing to do with the case. I am not posting their pictures as I don’t think it would be helpful at this time. The FBI apparently has a good video image of this man, so hopefully they can find him soon, and include or exclude him as the actual bomber. | |||||

| Did Ross have some connection to Binghamton? Ross’ father was the director of the YMCA in Binghamton NY in the 1950s. Ross attended school in Binghamton NY, there are school year books with Ross’ photo, google it. | |||||

| Yeah, I couldn’t decide if that was a mole or a pimple. Thought experiment though: if it was Ross why would he be there in 65? Has anyone ever checked crime reports in that area during that time? | |||||

| Thanks. That makes sense. At points I did think it might be an envelope because it appears to bend in his hand a bit. I thought it may be a book cover or plastic covering over the top as well. The way his hand is it makes a lot of sense that it’s through a hole in a bag. It’d be hard to have that hand position holding a book. | |||||
