There are things called reading glasses. Now that’s almost irrelevant because we have them in pharmacies here, on racks. They are both vari, bi and single focus. They look like glasses. Nothing makes them reading glasses……except maybe a cord? I imagine that would have been more of a phrase the further back in time we go. When, to have your glasses on a cord meant you didn’t need them all the time and mostly, that was for reading. Obviously, hence the term.

So, were the glasses on a cord? Or, did the victim see something that made her think the glasses were supplemented by something? A cord? elastic?

(TOL) Thinking out loud. :D

P.s – I wear glasses 24/7 have done since I was about 5. Umm that’s my CV regarding the subject lol. :?

I was 17 in 1972. That wasn’t "a phrase" back then. It meant something specific. If the glasses she saw were single focus lenses, there would be no reason for her to refer to them as "reading glasses." As my prior post [Dec. 30, 2013] said, reading glasses are for reading. That’s what makes them reading glasses. There is no reason for him to drive wearing reading glasses, unless they were bifocals, or "half glasses," that he could look over. Otherwise, reading glasses (single focus, for the farsighted) would make his distance vision blurry. Therefore, they must have been bifocals or half-glasses that he could look over.

Not sure what this adds to the discussion, but:

I met Isobel Watson at work right after the attack on her. She told me about it, but said "they think it was the Zodiac." I was so new to San Francisco that she had to explain to me who that was. Despite the police thinking it was the Zodiac, she was genuinely freaked about it and very, very scared.

Small other detail: she was Scottish, with a definite accent.

It does seem out of character, though he did claim that he would stage "fake accidents" (hitting her with the car) and "killings of anger" (acts enraged when she refuses his help), and wouldn’t take credit for them. If only half the male population didn’t look just like the sketch.

Ask Morf about the Telegraph Avenue incident and its similarity to the Cheri Jo Bates case.

Wow, very interesting…anything else you can tell us about Isobel and/or her surrounding? How was that when she told you about the incident and what exactly did she say? Thx… :ugeek:

I’m really late here, but it’s a shame police didn’t ask Isobel to help put together a composite sketch.
