I have been away from the forum since the switchover to the new forum
I have been looking, in vain, for information relating to an incident in Berkeley/Oakland/ Alameda County that took place in the 1950’s(?)
As I remember it from the old, old, OLD forum…. A dead bird(?)/ animal of some kind was killed by a young boy ( serial killer triad pattern?) and the body was wrapped in a letter signed " Red Phantom" or Zodiac…. Can’t remember which.
The family flew a Jolly Roger Flag ( Belli…. Anyone?) and the kid was described as " strange and antisocial" at a pre-teen age.
It was in the newspapers and rehashed for obvious reasons on boards ( even the address ,if I remember correctly) but the neighbor declined to press charges and the juvenile was not identified.
I would REALLY like to find more information for this as it fits ( geographically and otherwise) a long term POI of mine.

Can anyone with physical or digital access to a 1946-47 Polk’s Directory for Albany, CA try and find an address for William J Keating, the man who received the " Red Phantom" note with "three clews".
This fits with a POI(s) that I have been researching for a long time.
His/Their family lived in Albany in 1947 and he was 9 ( Born in 1938) at the time of this occurrence.

Wow, just when I think I’ve read most everything there is regarding this case, a new intriguing avenue appears. I’d really love to know who this kid was and if he was ever looked at. Right age, Californian, "clews," "red phanthom," threatning letters. At the very least you have a little psychopath in the making here.

Z’s use of Red Phanthom and spelling of "clews" could equally be a red herring. Maybe Z had read the story and decided to incorporate it into the letters as a diversion.

Probably a longshot, but if this was the address that these "spears" landed in, then they probably would have come from 416 Mississippi St, Vallejo, CA. Maybe someone can check into that as well.
