Take a look at this thread at Zodiackiller.com, which Zodiac researcher Mike Kelleher started back in the early 2000’s to obtain opinions as to whether Zodiac was dead or alive. There are a number of strange replies there from people who never posted anywhere else on the site ever again; some of those replies make me wonder.

Well sure… that thread title could stimulate Zodiac to respond if he was lurking but I think it is also an invitation for cryptic posts from hoaxsters motivated to make people question if they are Zodiac. Idiots like that have, unfortunately, never been in short supply.

entropy, I totally agree with you. It’s a lot suspicious when that many new posters sign on trying to make you think they are the Z. I’ve heard that there’s some people/posters with multiple posting names. If you look at some posters writing style & verbiage you can figure out who they are. You would think they would have better things to accomplish.

Well I can state categorically that I only post as Welsh Chappie on this site, and any other comments I make around the net. Either that or as myself as ‘Alex Lewis’. If I have something to say about something, I don’t feel I would need to do so while concealing who I am to say it. (Just making this point incase the above statement was in anyway referring to me) :-)

There was a poster on Tom’s site named "Oscar" who reminded me (and others) a lot of Richard Gaikowski. He mentioned having a lot of journalism/editing experience and often expressed anti-police sentiment. He claimed to have been born in 1969 but seemed way too knowledgeable about stuff happening back then for it to be true.

I agree drew, Oscar was very interesting & I thank you for bringing his posts to my attention. And there’s a few others that catch my eye now & then and I ponder…..
Sometimes I see posters with a post that grabs my attention….once there was this poster at Tom’s Site. He made only a few posts but I noticed something that matched one of my theories & I sent him a PM and sure enough I was right. I honestly don’t think anyone else even noticed. He posted for a month or so and then that was it.

Most hoaxers are pretty unsubtle, though. There’s a finesse to some of these posts that makes me take them as seriously as any potential Zodiac letter. I equate this with the 1990 snowman card; the thing that makes it feel legit to me is the lack of obvious ‘this is the Zodiac speaking’, if it makes any ironic sense. The thing had that teasing air to it and all the right signs without being in-your-face.

Oscar was classic, lol. If I had to vote for any poster being Zodiac, it would’ve been him.

One of Oscar’s most intriguing posts…

It happened. Zodiac barely got away. If the dispatcher had been on the ball, we may have missed the opportunity to converse on this board.
Oscar.

I am assuming this is in relation to the Presidio Heights murder?

What is he saying ‘Happened’? The encounter with Fouke i’m going to hazard a guess at?

Yes, Chappie, it is. Here is the full post below. This was written back in October of 2000 — Oscar seemed fully convinced the cops briefly stopped and talked to Zodiac.

Gregorypraxas,
It is documented in Graysmith’s book, and I have seen it mentioned several other times in varying accounts. One of the patrolmen died a few years after the event, but the survivor admitted that the event did occur- this is in one of the accounts. It happened. Zodiac barely got away. If the dispatcher had been on the ball, we may have missed the opportunity to converse on this board.
Oscar.
p.s. Penn & Teller in 2004! Ride the wave.

He doesn’t seem to know the details all the accurately. Eric Zelms, the patrolman who pulled up on Z with Don Fouke, was murdered on Jan 1st, 1970, not even three months after his encounter with Zodiac.
As for the one survivor admitting it, Don Fouke has never publically made any admissions about speaking to Zodiac. In fact Don Stated recently "We never stopped the man, we didn’t talk to him. That is an emphatic statement from me and I would’nt make the denial."

You never know, one of the three ten witnesses from Pacific Heights could be on these boards but not want it to be known because he doesn’t want 500 questions fired at him every hour. Or, there is also the eight year old witness who a suspects name to police as possibly being responsible.

I absolutely would love to know who’s name the child gave as the person he saw that night and why he suspected it may be Zodiac. Like did he think he saw a re stain’s all over his jacket and trousers?

Oh, I agree, Nacht, and if there was anyone still interested in monitoring a board like this thinking that Zodiac would enjoy taking the pulse of those interested in this case, I bet that would be exactly what they were looking for. It is also that "finesse" and lack of redundancy that makes for a quality Zodiac forgery rather than just repeating words and phrases used by Zodiac. I think the 1990 card, the 13-hole card and a few others fit that description and could certainly have been genuine. Just saying that there are lots of sociopathic individuals out there that would enjoy posting cryptic stuff to gain attention and most, if not all, of them are not Zodiac.

Perhaps I should google this to verify before I post, but I’m too tired. Wasn’t the BTK serial killer caught by an email he sent? Posts can also be traced. I wish LE would look into some of these suspicious posts.

Here’s a Zodiac-like post from a 340 cipher site:

This is the Zodiac Speaking . . . September 20, 2011 10:46 pm

“Of course, plenty of people have already tried to crack the two halves independently and failed. . . .”

You so certain of that Einstein? Says who?

(This zodiackillersite program will not allow the fake web address, above, ‘This is the Zodiac speaking’ wrote. So I’ll write it out here: "http" followed by "Anysitethatwillgivemeabreakfromallthesearrogantself-anointedcipherexperts!")

BTK asked Wichita P.D. if it was "safe" to mail in a floppy disk. He clearly wasn’t very tech savvy and believed investigators when they assured him that "Nah, it’s OK. We won’t try to trace it back to you or anything. ;) "

The disk was then traced back to a "Dennis" at the church where he was the acting president and the BTK case was all but solved for them.

Please forgive my skepticism about identifying Zodiac through on-line posts. The idea makes total sense just like the idea of checking out letters to the editor which led to Mr. X as a person of interest. I just think we need to keep in mind that there a ton of non-Zodiac individuals out there inclined to offer those looking plenty of bussy work.
