Was watching a Zodiac documentary today and heard something I’ve never heard before ( would have dismissed it as one of several errors normally contained in such shows, except the words came from Ken Narlow)….He claimed that after they recieved the phone call from Napa ( Z claiming responsibility for Berryessa) that they sent people out searching around for Phones that were off the hook and that the phone in question, was found by a "Roving Reporter".
Maybe it was badly edited or something but the obvious question is why they weren’t able to trace it directly (which they seemed to be able to do pretty quickly in Vallejo).
I also checked the chronological order of the Chronicle stories which followed this murder ( excellent work Tahoe and Seagull) and the initial report does not appear until 3 days later, Sept 30th. I would have thought ( especially with a reporter on the scene) that it may have made the paper sooner than it did! Perhaps some local paper got the scoop? It would also be interesting to know who this guy was.
Yes, Weir that is correct. The reporter was Pat Stanley. You can read about it in the first of the Napa Register articles posted at the old forum.

Not placing the phone back on the receiver would eliminate any possibility of tracing the call.
