There was a poster on one of the old boards who launched a rather elaborate theory (this was at least ten years ago, I should think) in which he sought to demonstrate that ALA was Z, and that all the Z letters are filled with veiled references to his identity. The theorist in question also had the particular idea that George Washington (biographical details and whatnot) was key to understanding how ALA/Z reasoned. It was, as said, an elaborate affair – but the guy’s basic proposal was that the Z campaign, both letters and murders, formed a coherent "narrative" of sorts, and that ALA was the protagonist of the latter.
Ring a bell? I know this guy posted on Voigt’s – but like I said this was a long time ago, he probably did NOT post on the present incarnation of that board. I’m fairly sure he launched a site (or a blog) of his own, where his material was published (and he also, IIRC, sent his stuff to the authorities at one point).

PS The guy was Irish, if that helps trigger anyone’s memory.
That must have been Sean, I do recall that he was an ALA fan and was from Ireland. He was in the documentary Hunting the Zodiac, I think there is a link to it at Tom’s. He had a buddy Ray N who was a pilot (?) from Florida. You might find some of Sean’s posts on the two older boards of Tom’s but I think maybe his name was changed to "Forum User Deleted" on the current forum when he quit after a beef with Vindog. That was an ugly drama that sprouted from a misunderstanding……..
Sean is still a Member here, but he has a lot of stuff going on lately that keeps him busy. I exchange emails with him once in a while
