But note what Snook says here: The moisture remained THREE HOURS after he arrived at the scene. So – well. I have no idea, really – perhaps this is normal.

I was reading up on fingerprints and from what I can tell, how long a print remains wet depends on a number of factors, one of which is the amount of sweat present. Hartnell sad the guy had a greasy forehead IIRC, so perhaps the Zodiac either sweated profusely or was one of those people who have very oily skin.

Regardless, I found one mention in RG’s first book wherein he first mentions artificially drying the print

I think he said his hair was greasy.

He did. He said that in the police interview. But I seem to recall someone else claiming that the Zodiac had a "greasy forehead".

Perhaps I’m hallucinating.

Bryan could have said that, unfortunately Graysmith says a lot of things that simply did not take place. There are people who were interviewed who would concur. But hey, if he had greasy hair, it wouldn’t surprise me if he had a greasy forehead.

I just highly doubt the guys palms were dripping with sweat an hour after the crimes, so much so they left the phone wet for such a long period of time after the phone was left dangling.

A 210 Lb guy "did not sink down nearly as much as Zodiac did", hmmm…seems like Z was likely considerably more than 210

Greetings all. Question on prints taken from Napa phone booth. Is there a picture or description? Has anyone seen original file from police? Looking to basics on case, and if we can confirm that these were male prints, consistent with a man, over a woman. Just a crazy theory that a woman could be tall, carry a knife and gun, and be a killer. I’m only 5’5 but have female cousins over 6 feet and a heavier build. And here in CA it is sometimes difficult to tell if someone is male or female. I’ve met females with deep voices. It would be one helluva way to hide from suspect description if killer was a woman and could shed male clothing, any fake wig or toupee or boots.

Thanks,

CathyO

"At 20.50 hours Reporting Officer met Eric Ronback and Reserve Officer Donald Stanley at the Napa Car Wash, Main and Clinton Streets, They stated that they had secured the scene and the area around the phone had been searched for physical evidence. The phone booth was then processed for latent impressions and latent impression lifts #1 thru 35 were taken into evidence. Heavy beads of moisture remained on the impressions photographed."

The Zodiac Killer was almost certainly right-handed, as he had holstered his gun on the right side during the attack on the young couple. Had these been the payphone prints of the killer, then they could have confirmed a right-handed assailant. Although not beyond argument, a right-handed killer would likely handle the telephone receiver with his left hand while dialing with his right. The four fingers of the left hand on the top side of the receiver. In the case of a left-handed person holding the receiver with their right hand, the four finger impressions would be on the opposite side of the receiver.

Women can be tall, can wear wingwalker 10.5 boots and can speak in a more masculine way, but when we collate the totality of the evidence from eyewitnesses in three of the attacks, the idea of a male impersonator is not a viable option. Unless you are of the opinion the Berryessa attack was independent to the other three.

The moisture remained on the phone for hours…which is really silly. That doesn’t happy from sweaty palms. Almost makes me laugh. I still say it was steam.

Later is was said they weren’t usable. Not sure what’s up with that.

In the 2007 Zodiac documentary Tahoe, Dave Slaight stated "As I sat there I could hear voices in the background and traffic. So I called the Sheriff’s Office on another line and kept the one line open. The Sheriff’s Office had broadcast, I had possibly broadcast, I’m not exactly positive, that this person had left the phone off the hook. As it turned out one of the local reporters for the newspaper had heard this broadcast on his scanner, and so he started driving around the city of Napa to see if he could find the phone, and he was the one who actually saw the phone. He was then yelling "can you hear me, can you hear me," and I could hear the voice, and that’s how we located the phone."

I am assuming therefore that Pat Stanley was yelling into the phone without touching it.
