One thing that has always puzzled me is why the getup. He dresses up with a costume to kill people. I have thought for
awhile now, that somebody filmed the zodiac "doing his thing". If the Zodiac intended to murder the couple at the lake, then who would have seen his costume other than the dead people who wouldn’t be able to tell about it. It seems to me that to create such a well done hood(as it has been described), and have it be meaningless unless somebody could see it
doesn’t make sense at all. The hood "makes the zodiac", as far as I can see. I get chills just looking at that spooky covering.
And just maybe the flashlight that the zodiac told police he used at night was actually a small camera with a light.

IMO he expected Cecilia Shepard (or Bryan Hartnell), who certainly had ties to the Riverside area, to recognize him as ‘not welcome’. Thus, to approach the two, he had to disguise. Hartnell even recognized his voice from somewhere else (but could not remember where from) [correct?]. He therefore had to disguise, calmly had some chit chat without content (how dangerous he not was and that he needed money – which he actually needn’t). The other crimes, Z had rather not disquised himself.

Think they met their assailant either at Hartnells dorm room area or at the Angwin (Sevent Day Adventists?) market previous to the murder.

I guess one thing that would have been useful to know is if anyone knew Hartnell or Shephard were going there. Did Hartnell ever explain how they had decided to go there? If it was while they were together, no one could have known, but if they had told others. It’s too bad police interviews were so brief, you’d usually want to ask questions about the days leading up to the attack, not just start at the attack itself.

I have to assume the attacker didn’t know they would be there. Nothing indicates that he targeted Hartnell/Shephard specifically, especially if the three girls suspect was the same guy, who basically tailed them to the beach and sat close to them for a while, so close he was basically letting them see his gace. And that is a lot of trouble just to mask his face, why not just get something simple instead of making a costume? Plus, he murders them both anyway (or thought he would).

The "I’m going to have you stab you" stuff came from Ranger White. Hartnell has always denied it.

Remember that Zodiac most likely stopped at the Rayfield’s car first (about 8/10’s of a mile north) before stopping at Bryan Hartnell’s car and happening upon them on that little peninsula. I personally don’t buy that Z knew either Cecilia or Bryan. Particularly if you calmly chat to them for 10-15 minutes. I think what Bryan referred to when he said he heard that drawl before was that it was a drawl he had heard in other people before, I think he actually said something along those lines too.

That is impossible. The dentist and his son estimated they saw the unknown man at 6:30 PM. There is literally no way the subject could have gotten to a car, driven to the turnout, hiked down to the beach, committed the attack on Cecelia and Bryan, hiked back to his car, and then gotten to the phone booth in time to make the call at 7:40.
