Tonight I watched an episode of "Live to Tell"on CBS. A young women’s ex-boyfriend brutally stabbed her and she miraculously lived to tell about it. The television show was very descriptive and surreal.
I literally sat here, tears pouring down my face, as I thought of Cheri. The life she was robbed of…horrifically. I thought of what Cheri went through and wondered if she felt her life slipping away as this young woman described.
We debate who killed her, talk a lot of Zodiac–and while it is for a good purpose, I think sometimes we forget about Cheri and her life and the light that drained from her at the had of a monster–no matter who it was. Cheri was young and beautiful…and more than anything I am so very sorry her life was taken from her and her family lost her.
We need to remember too that this sort of thing happens way too often to women. If you can watch, please do…and think of Cheri. You’ll understand in the first 2 minutes.
Live well Melissa! http://www.cbsnews.com/news/48-hours-st … or-speaks/
And it just keeps happening.

I’ve been following this case because it’s close to home. Luckily, DNA evidence left by Jesse Matthew links him to his crimes. One of his victims survived and recently testified against him. He was convicted on all charges, and now faces a capital murder charge for the death of Hannah Graham. He is also linked to the death of Morgan Harrington. Both victims went missing in Charlottesville, VA, and their remains were found in remote locations.
This stuff is way too common. Sadly, most women ending up on the wrong end of a Knife, usually are not facing a serial killer, they are Victims of a loved one,or somebody they know. My Daughter’s Birthday is October 30, and every time I tell her Happy Birthday, I usually think of Cheri a couple minutes later.
There is more than one way to lose your life to a killer

Very nice post Tahoe – TY. I was walking to the parking garage at RCC yesterday and thought about CJB, too. A cop was on patrol on campus and I couldn’t help but think what the outcome would have been had a cop patrolled the campus the night Cheri was murdered. Would she still be here? Had she chose to just stay home instead of go to the library would she have escaped death? the pain her loved ones must have felt I don’t even want to begin to imagine. I think we all have a habit (defo me included) of getting so stuck in the details of a case that we forget that it involved real people that were loved and cared about and that we are all human trying to make sense of what was an absolute tragedy and act of senseless murder.
It got me thinking too about trusting our intuition. I think it is a safe bet Cheri, if at least for the slightest moment, had some hesitation as did this girl.
Melissa, the girl who survived, said she had strong reservations, but it was "just a hug" her ex wanted and she thought she should just "get it over with".
I caught the episode of "Live to Tell" last night also. It’s amazing that Melissa even survived such a brutal attack and that she’s recovered to the extent she has, it’s wonderful to see.
I agree, trust your intuition, instinct, better judgment, gut feeling or what ever you want to call it. I think it’s something we have to learn to do.
