I still question why she didn’t walk right back into the library but rather walked off with somebody into the darkness.I think she knew her killer, whomever it was
What if she planned to do so but the suspect put a knife to her side and said "come with me quietly" or some variation of. This would imply that the letter writer was a liar as some are already suggesting based on the mention of the middle wire being pulled from the distributor in the papers the day after her death.

Remember, CJB was parked on a street, not a parking lot. She left her books in her car, so if a ride was offered (in a car) she would have taken them.
The library was closed at that time, so going back there would not be a good option.
And yes the small knife makes it very unlikely this was a planned murder from the start.
Pink Panther is no longer a member. She seemed to be more interested in the many unsolved cases not related to Zodiac than the Zodiac case itself and became rather huffy when few here shared her passion. At first she was willing to go to the RCC library and look for things that people requested. She did that a total of one time and never went back to the library.
We can search what that library has. But when I search for RS nothing comes up.

I think they were going back to the library. They were walking back to the librarys general direction. I think they were just cutting through the row of houses as a short cut. I don’t think she just accepted a ride from someone. She wouldn’t have left her keys in the ignition, her purse and her books in the car. She expected to come back to her car.
Why would she follow someone back towards the library? Maybe because this person worked there and had keys to open the door and offered to let her use the phone?

Does anyone know exactly where Cheri Jo’s car was parked ?

This is where having the police report would be very helpful. There was also a better map, but this one works.

The A Arrow points to the library. CJB body was found near the top of the letter A. The street A covers was the dark street she walked down, so like JeffP said, they could have very well been heading to the library.
My understanding is she parked ON Terracina, not a lot. I believe she was parked near the driveway of B.
This image is older, but still no parking location.

JeffP, the DOJ report states that Cheri’s car was parked in front of the library. It doesn’t say it was down the block. I know that the reports are not always entirely correct but this is the only one that I know of where it mentions the location of Cheri’s car. Where did you get your information that the car was found what looks to be a half a block away?

About the geographical situation regarding Z (assumed) activities in Riverside:
– Confession letter was sent from Riverside
– Confession letter was sent to the Riverside police department (4102 Orange Street?)
– Bates letter #1 was sent from Riverside
– Bates letter #1 was sent to Joseph Bates, 4195 San Jose Riverside
– Bates letter #2 was sent from Riverside
– Bates letter #2 was sent to the Riverside police department (4102 Orange Street?)
– Bates letter #3 was sent from Riverside
– Bates letter #2 was sent to the Press Enterprise, 3512 14th Street Riverside
– CJB was killed near 7675 Magnolia Avenue Riverside
All of his activities had happened in the area of Riverside. Press Enterprise was close to RCC, Joseph Bates lived close to Ramona High. No idea if the current police department’s address was the same then, if so that was close to RCC, too.
One might conclude that those activities were all related to two areas, the one near Ramona High and the one near RCC (e.g. Press Enterprise nearby).

I saved the photo above. I didn’t create it. I think I got it from this site, maybe somewhere else. So i’m not sure who made it. I assumed it was legit. There is no actual parking lot right in front of the library though. That marked parking lot is within the campus of the school. From the looks of it that’s the closest parking lot IN FRONT of the library. I think there’s a parking lot behind Fairfax avenue. That’s the main RCC parking lot.
I don’t think the tennis courts were there back then. I think it was a parking lot.
On edit: I just checked and there’s no parking directly in front of the school library (on Terracina Ave). The only parking lot "in front" of the library in 1966 was the area marked on that photo, next to the football field where the tennis courts are now. The parking lot is on the other side between fairfax Ave and Ramona Dr.
It’s my understand that Cheri did not park in a parking lot, she parked on the street.

You can’t park on the street in front of the library on Terracina.
Here’s another pic of the layout. The only place "in front of the library" would be Terracina Avenue. It’s all open today (remember there was a major remodeling done a few years after the murder), but back then the science building blocked the library from Mine Okubo Avenue (which back then was called Riverside Ave).
I think the report meant in front of the library in a general way. Like she was parked on Terracina Ave. in front of the library. Not that she was literally parked in front of the library as it was not possible to park there.

This is at least consistent with her being parked on Terracina Ave, not a parking lot.
*Notice the doj report mentions the confession envelope written with felt pen. This is one more overlooked consistency with the Zodiac letters.

Here are a couple more instances where the location of Cheri’s car was mentioned.

So, I think you’re correct in that the car was not directly in front of the library but it was on Terracina and not in a parking lot.
