When I saw that picture ,I asked Darlene’s sister Pam and she told me it was a prom picture, but she didn’t remember the guys name.

He looks older than a school mate of Darlene’s , he doesn’t look familiar to me. Christina might remember who he was?

That would have been a few years before Darlene met Jim Phillips. If anyone is a "mystery man" it would be this guy in my book.

Could possibly be a valet. Some proms have that kinda service. No idea how it was back then. Just thought that cause there happened to be a camera as she exited the vehicle, seems odd. Doesn’t appear to be a car parked just beside that vehicle either. So, perhaps it was a drive up entrance to the place? Could’ve been a restaurant or anything. Doesn’t necessarily mean this picture was taken at the prom event.

You could be right, perhaps her date was the one taking the picture? I can’t think of any up-scale restaurants with valets in Vallejo or Napa back then. When ever we wanted a nice night out, most of us hung out in San Francisco, maybe the Mark Hopkins or "St. Francis"? The car looks like it could have been a light colored Chevy Impala with white walls ?

The picture is more than a little bit fuzzy, but going by its position, I’d say it’s either the rear door handle or a piece of trim.

I think that I can see the door handle below that thing that looks like a hole. That hole would be too high for a door handle and it is in a place that I wouldn’t think trim would be either. You are right it is pretty fuzzy.

Idk re. door handle/car but find the picture very curious, especially the hands. It does look to me like the man is probably a valet. His left hand looks rather strange imo. (knuckles look dark as if wearing matching dark rings on each finger) but this is probably just the lighting. Then I noticed Darlene’s hands. She is wearing a white glove on her left hand but a matching white one on her right hand is not seen. I thought maybe she had a black evening wrap draped over her right hand but then don’t think so after looking closely and wonder if it could be a black glove?

Yes it looks like a black wrap to me.

I think he may not be as dark as he appears, back then the cameras had flashbulbs that if pointed on the subject, everything else around the subject is dark. White reflects light so his collar and cuffs shows pretty well. That is only a guess from past experiences taking pictures back then.
