We are know David was a Boy Scout, thought we could try to tap into more about this.

I found this out: The Order of the Arrow is an honor society in the Boy Scouts. Dave Faraday was a member.

All though I don’t belive the Zodiac knew his victims and they were random crimes Imo. I still keep a open mind to him knowing his victims and this is a good topic since Zodiac mentions hunting and maybe he learned that in boy scouts.

I am not saying that Z knew his Victims, but I could see an older loser type guy(perhaps like Z)being involved with the Boy scouts, that’s not to say that all adult men involved with scouting are weird or have questionable motives.

Good point and didn’t think of that angle but can see that too.

Actually, The Order of the Arrow (OA) is a service organization inside of Scouting. The OA is part of the Boy Scouts of America, but it is a subset of the Boy Scout organization. Candidates for the OA are elected by their troop after meeting certain requirements to become members of the OA. The OA performs various types of service projects that either help the local community or Scouting in general. Many, but not all Boy Scouts become members of the OA.

David was a Boy Scout and he belonged to Troop 69 in Vallejo. My brother also was in Troop 69 with David. I do not know who the Chartering Organization was for Troop 69. The Chartering organization is usually a church or school who sponsors the troop and provides limited oversight to the working of the troop. Troop 69 eventually folded at some point in the early 1970’s. I believe it was resurrected as Troop 70, of which I was a member.

The regional Scouting organization which manages a number of troops in a geographic area at the time was the Silverado Area Council. If I remember correctly, it covered Solano and Napa counties. The Silverado Council was eventually absorbed into the Mt. Diablo Area Council. It is now called the Mt. Diablo Silverado Council. Perhaps there are some records retained by Mt. Diablo Silverado Council on the adult leadership of Troop 69 that could be cross referenced against lists of POI’s or provide other leads.

I do not know what was required n the 1960’s to be an adult scout leader, but today it is a very rigorous process. Today the adults fill out an application which includes permission for Scouting to perform background checks and providing 3 personal references. You have to provide proof that you are not a convicted sexual offender via online checks that most states have. Once approved as an adult leader, you have to take regular online training in a variety of subjects but the main one is Youth Protection Training (YPT). YPT guides you in the rules for dealing with minors to protect them and to protect the adults.

It is all very regulated now, but my suspicion is that back them it was not. There still should be lists somewhere of the adult leaders if the records were not lost.

Morf,

I know you did not mean that adult Scout Leaders are losers. It actually takes a lot of time and commitment to be an adult leader in the Boy Scouts. I know as I have been involved since 2001 when my younger son became eligible to start Cub Scouts.

The losers are the parents who are not involved, dump their kid at the door, and maybe make it back in time to pick them up when the days activities are over so those of us who put the time and effort to plan and run an activity can go home.
