As I look at the sketches of the crime scene and the position of Betty Lou Jensens body in relation to the vehicle she was in I wonder why she chose to move in a straight pattern and not move and duck around the vehicle she was in. I’m in noway saying that would have saved her from the attack but most people tend to flee behind or around the closest form of cover especially during gun fire whether they are trained or not its a reaction. I know James Owen stated he saw a vehicle parked beside the faradays but I cant help but wonder if the reason she moved straight was because there was really a vehicle that pulled up right behind Faraday and she couldn’t move around David’s vehicle because she had to clear the one that pulled up behind them.
In my own opinion I believe the image below (which I added to) is a strong possibility. I know what Mr. James Owens stated but I don’t really buy it. Why would he lie? I have no idea, Was he Z or connected to Z? I have no idea. Was he an honest man who was telling the truth? I have no idea, Was he getting his days mixed up of when he saw two vehicles side by side and no-one around? I have no Idea. I’m Just offering a different and more likely scenario in my own opinion.
What I think happened is the mystery vehicle (in blue) could have pulled up very close behind David and betty while they were sitting in there vehicle. The kids froze (possibly thinking the police just pulled up behind them ) as the headlights blinded them from seeing what kind of vehicle actually just pulled up to the rear of them (just like the killer did at a later date in blue rock springs). The killer exits his vehicle extremely fast (pattern in red) and heads straight for the passenger side of David and betty Lou’s vehicle demanding they exit there vehicle now. David could not back up because he was pinned and again possibly could have thought it was a cop until the killer fires 1 shot into the back window as a warning shot, followed by another. Betty Lou exits the passenger side first he tells her to face the vehicle and don’t move. David then begins to awkwardly crawl/climb over to the passenger side of the vehicle to exit as well (because he is not going to just bail out of the drivers side and just leave betty Lou with a maniac) and he is immediately shot as he is exiting. From the slight downward angle the killer shoots David it is possible the shell casing ejects and bounces off the killers body (stomach, arm, or chest) and lands in the vehicle (1 shell case in the vehicle). Betty Lou hears the shot to the right of her and turns to look and sees David is wounded (it wasn’t another warning shot) she then screams and starts to run as the killer starts firing (while standing by David’s body) at her from a very close range hitting her multiple times. Betty is still running/moving (in yellow) the path which gives her the best opportunity at that frantic moment. She cannot duck and circle around the vehicle she was in because the killers vehicle was very close behind not leaving much room. She then had to make a decision to try to make it pass the killers vehicle and maybe use that as cover while she tries to escape down the dark road. As she is moving towards the path of the least amount of threat the killer is firing at her and he begins to slowly circle around David’s body as he is firing. Why does he do this? My theory is because all though betty Lou was injured she did not fall right away and she began to gain some distance from the killer which may have worried him. He also (depending on the angle of his vehicle) may have risked hitting his own vehicle at some point while he was firing. So why circle around David’s body while firing? (ending up where the X is) why not just step over him and chase her down? Maybe a bad knee or bad leg period or maybe some sort of injury at the time that prohibited him from jumping or lifting his leg very high or running
very well (who knows). This is obviously all speculation and there are obviously no facts to back any of this up but I feel in my own opinion this is much more likely then a car pulling up 10 feet parallel to David’s and he not hop up back up and pull off that late at night. Again I don’t know maybe that did happen but i just don’t see it.
