http://zodiackiller.com/LassReward.html

Given to Tom and shared at zodiackiller.com…by bruce3 who mentioned it was Mary’s son or son-in-law who created the code.

I have to wonder if this poster wasn’t created years later though because South Lake Tahoe used to have a (916) area code. Not changed to (530) until ’97 (thx for the reminder Seagull). Her son/son-in-law would have had to be old enough as well. I’m thinking this was created around the time Harvey Hines got more involved with Mary and her son. http://www.tahoedailytribune.com/news/3 … /news-none (2001)

We discuss it a bit here: http://zodiackiller.fr.yuku.com/topic/8 … zEG36hdWSo

Someone gave a potential solve as : "Beware I am stalking you….Donna Lass"

Beware I am stalking you…Donna Lass doesn’t work out with the cipher (‘Beware I am stalking’ does, ‘you’, however, does not). My original solutions had been e.g.:

Plead liars talkin soon!!!! Donna Lass!
Clear liar, so all in fool!!!! Donna Lass!
and possibly some other, similar solutions without much content. However one of the best solution might be:

BEWARE I AM STALKIN’ SOON!!!! DONNA LASS!

If this cipher has any content at all (some say it was just made to attrack attention, however the ‘Donna Lass’ part looks quite valid to me).

There still is the possibility that this cipher might (or might not) be a simple substitution cipher, therefore not allowing to representing the same alphabetical letter. Assuming this, the last symbol of the first part of the cipher may not represent the letter ‘N’, because this letter is already represented by another symbol from the word ‘Donna’.

Therefore, the last double letter word may (or may not) be a different one, not ending with either N or L (same with Lass). It could, for example, be the word ‘gunroom’.

_._. _A_._._A_S_ALGUNROOM!!!!DONNALASS!

In that case, ‘Marshall gunroom’ would not work either as we assume the ‘M’ to not be represented by two different symbols. IMO there are not many other solutions, e.g. the following doesn’t work out in the beginning, although the rest is a match (not to mention the content):

_B_A_BOARSWALKONFOOT!!!!DONNALASS!

Useless thoughts.

Tahoe-

I believe you are absolutely correct that this poster was created much later than the 1970s. Not only because of the 530 area code, which only came in existence in 1997, but also because the poster
itself was clearly created using a computer. To give credit where due, I believe that smithy has pointed this out on another Zodiac board somewhere, but I’ve gone ahead and made a mockup
image just to make it really clear:

Using the Microsoft "Times New Roman" font – which itself is from the 1990s – not only does it look the same, everything lines up pretty much pixel-by-pixel. There just would be no practical way to
create that poster in the 1970s. It was clearly created on a computer, most likely using Microsoft Word 97.

True, glurk. So much more succinct than me, though. ;)

Does anyone know if drugs, especially heavy duty ones, were kept in nursing stations like this? I’m wondering specifically about any drugs someone suffering from migraine headaches might seek as well as any others.

Not sure about heavy duty drugs. I know if people had it bad, they were sent to the hospital. It’s certainly a possibility, but I don’t think prescription strength drugs would have been handed out.

I also think the amount of the ($10,000.00) reward is quite telling.

Considering the fact in 1971 the reward was only $500.00, I think it safe to say it was simply a mistake as far as the release date.

(sorry–not sure who deserves credit for finding this article..no paper is mentioned.
