I was reading a thread at zodiackiller.com and I am now wondering about an unknown caller phoning her place of work and landlord and if it even took place. ??

It is mentioned here the person who called her work was the former property manager at Donna’s apartment complex "Nick Davis".

It is mentioned the person who called the former manager at the Monte Verde Apts. was security guard Gordon Petrovich from her work.

While security officer Gordon says Nick told him there was an illness in the family and Donna would be leaving South Lake Tahoe, Nick denies that happened on the date Gordon states it did. Ok…whatever…let’s say that is the case.

Regardless, neither of these men claim to say they received this information directly from some strange, unknown caller.

The only place I see word of someone mentioning "suspects health" is from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department. An under-Sheriff there brought up the "suspects health" and it seems they felt that was carried over to Nick, then apparently her work.

SO….where did the "family emergency/sickness" originate?

Is there more to this report we don’t know or is it all simply confusion?

Here is the thread: http://zodiackiller.fr.yuku.com/topic/1 … zxUoUnn8eg

…Our investigation reveals that there was no documented activity by the South Lake Tahoe Police Dept. between the time that John Schott called, and the time our client [DL’s family’]visited the police dept.at 8:00 PM on Saturday September 19,1970.[!]
Security Guard Gordon Petrovich claims he recieved a telephone call from a "mr.Davis" relating the following on either Sept 7 or 8,he spoke with this party[Davis] and was told Donna wouldnt be able to work that day. She had to leave the city of South Lake Tahoe because of illness in her family. Petrovich claims he left a note on the Security Desk of the call, did not recognize the voice and could not tell what time the call came in,and did not remember if it sounded like a long distance call. Could not be sure if it was Tuesday or Weds…

Testimony from mr. Nick Davis ,former manager of the Monte Verde Apartments[DL stayed one night here],discloses that he had received a call from the Security Office of Sahara Tahoe on Friday ,Sept 11,1970. He, in turn, called the South Lake Tahoe Police Dept.and talked with dispatcher Bob Morgan.
Mr Morgan revealed that he had a call from Douglass County Sheriff’s Office about the subject[DL] ,and he understood that there was some sickness in the family. He felt that Under Sherriff Bradovich was the one who raised the question of subject’s health ,and that subsequent conversations carried the health aspect, and that he,mr Davis, then called back to the Sahara Tahoe, and said there was a health problem, and that Gordon Petrovich misunderstood it to be in the earlier part of the week, the 7th or the 8th.,when it was in fact on the 11th,Friday…
On Sept.13.1970 at 7:30 PM,mr.Davis called the South Lake Tahoe Police Dept.and made request the subject’s [DL] condition be observed. Davis at that time had knowledge of the alleged call that subject left town to visit a sick relative. This coincides with the call that Gordon Petrovich had received under the same circumstances only on different dates.

–Bolding mine.

The only suspect from Donna’s work that I knew of as a POI, was George Victor Jonasson, a different security Guard.

For certain reasons, I am interested in the possibility that Jonasson was the creator of the Lass postcards in the z case.

So are you saying you think this guy could have told the Douglas County Sheriff’s office there was a illness in Donna’s family?

It would appear there was no unknown caller(s) right after she went missing, so I am wondering where this idea came to be.

Gordon Petrovich, the guard, was once in the navy. Also, his name seems to link to this Google hit(unless theres another Guy by the same name):

For what its worth, he had an unspecified criminal charge in SAN BERNARDINO CA at some point

well that certainly changes things. So wasn’t it Jonasson, a blond haired man, who it was reported was last seen with Donna on 9/8/70, walking by the Monte Verdi Apts.? and wasn’t it the apt. manager, I guess Mr. Davis, who reported that?

From another thread:

"It was suggested by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department her health may have been an issue."
..Testimony from mr.

Donna was last seen at 1.50 am, when the pen trailed from her notepad. She apparently was in good spirits according to Joan Bentley. She was abducted in the car park of the casino. Nothing else would explain her not meeting her friend Jo Anne Goettsche at 2.00 am. This woman had traveled all the way from San Francisco to spend Labor Day weekend with Donna Lass. We cannot believe that Donna Lass in a perfectly good mood, just couldn’t be bothered to meet her friend in just 10 minutes time, and just left the casino on foot, snubbing her friend, who had just traveled 190 miles. There may be confusion whether the mystery caller rang her landlord, the casino or Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, or any combination, but a call was received claiming the family illness. This can only be viewed as suspicious, because Donna wasn’t in her Chevrolet Camaro that night and her friend was only minutes away, about to meet with her and drive her back to the Monte Verdi apartments. A clear indication the family illness was a ruse.

I have talked to JoAnne on more than one occasion. She later clarified to me it wasn’t the night Donna went missing that she was to meet her.

And I quote: "I just realized she had been abducted before I even arrived at Tahoe to meet her, by at least a day or so.
I was so shocked, I did not really pay that much attention to the date.
"

Also, there doesn’t appear to be ANY call claiming a family illness. Someone in law enforcement "raised the question of the subject’s health" and it carried on from there.

"He felt that Under Sherriff Bradovich was the one who raised the question of subject’s health ,and that subsequent conversations carried the health aspect, and that he,mr Davis, then called back to the Sahara Tahoe, and said there was a health problem…

No mysterious calls to her landlord and none to her employer. No illness ruse…just miscommunication.

My understanding is that the two girls were to spend Labor Day weekend together, while on holiday. Why would Jo Anne Goettsche travel to South Lake Tahoe on Monday or Tuesday, a day or so later when both likely had to resume their respective jobs. Jo Anne Goettsche was quoted as saying she returned back to San Francisco Sunday night. I’m not doubting what Jo Anne Goettsche said to you Tahoe, but what she said doesn’t sound right

Could be the exact opposite…they had to work the holiday. Nurse’s don’t always get those off.

I can tell you the police report had things wrong. It mentions JoAnne having driven up with friends. She said she was very much alone. She came up days later with Donna’s sister, but came alone on the way up. Just to add, JoAnne has all her wits about her.

I agree with you that she was probably abducted outside in the parking lot somewhere. Whether she knew the man or not is the mystery.

This is right on South Lake Tahoe PD’s site mentioning the unknown male caller. Would they really list info that felt was not accurate?

According to that the call to landlord was true. Also, where was this supposed grave of her items?

Yes. There is more at that site that is not accurate. Her car wasn’t found in Stateline. And their listing of cold cases shows her missing date as the 23rd of September.

If that information in the report is accurate, show me the mysterious phone call? Neither her employer or her landlord got one.

It was a pair of sunglasses that looked like some Donna owned. That was it. It was under a YMCA symbol made out of rocks over by Donner Summit.
