Hello, I am CipherMatrix … I break and study codes, ciphers and puzzles. I have been working on the Zodiac case for many years now and believe that I have cracked most aspects of the Z case with mathematical certainty. Feel free to ask me anything regarding this rather complicated case and I shall be more than happy to submit my solutions in the easiest possible format.

Sure…good to meet you. If you like you can post the full solution of the 340, if you like.

When I posted this statement I indeed seen this answer being brought forth first, never mind I said "I have cracked MOST aspects of the case", however, since this rather interesting question has come up I’ll throw around a few of my ideas on the 340 partial work I have done, thus:

Looking at the famous 340 Zodiac cipher/code one thing stands out above all others in that there are simple "dots" within the block matrix placed at "6" intervals. This very strongly hints at this cipher/code being binary in nature as dots are used as place holders in binary math without which would make little sense. These dots are placed as such within the matrix grid :
The first dot counting from the top to the right appears after the (28) symbols. The second appears after the next (86) symbols. The third appears again after the next (86) symbols. The fourth appears after the following (31) symbols. The fifth appears after the next (25) symbols. The final and sixth appears following the next (8) symbols in the graph. Next there are (73) symbols until the end of the graph with no dot place holder.

28 86 86 31 25 8 73

These numbers in binary are thus :

00110010001110000011100000110110001110000011011000110011001100010011001000110101001110000011011100110011

( 46 1’s )

28 86 86 31 25 8 73 into Morse code, thus :

—– —– .—- .—- —– —– .—- —– —– —– .—- .—- .—- —– —– —– —– —– .—- .—- .—- —– —– —– —– —– .—- .—- —– .—- .—- —– —– —– .—- .—- .—- —– —– —– —– —– .—- .—- —– .—- .—- —– —– —– .—- .—- —– —– .—- .—- —– —– .—- .—- —– —– —– .—- —– —– .—- .—- —– —– .—- —– —– —– .—- .—- —– .—- —– .—- —– —– .—- .—- .—- —– —– —– —– —– .—- .—- —– .—- .—- .—- —– —– .—- .—- —– —– .—- .—-

( 46 dots )

(Take note that 86 comes up twice) 86+86=172

Since (46) also comes up twice, thus :

(172)(46)=7912 or ADGIB

ADGIB working backwords in exact order equals "BIG DA" or D=4 A=1 thus : "BIG14"
(14) or "4TEEN" was a BIG clue on the Holloween card. 14 is also seen in the hand of the skeleton also depicted on the Zodiac Holloween card. This tells us that we are in fact on the right track here.

Now lets put that aside for now and look into how exactly a cipher/code could be encrypted using binary 0’s and 1’s as the 340 obviously is.
You would need two seperate number grids, one for 0’s and one for 1’s .

EXAMPLE :

A. 0’s binary grid using 0’s in place of the Zodiac symbols that would represent a Zero in place of the zodiac symbols, thus :

0’s Binary Cipher Grid

Now we have a very clever method to encrypt any message using any symbols using a binary message as the medium. Remember that the zero’s and one’s are taking the place of the symbols used by the Zodiac . As you can see, without knowing the message is coded in binary it is crack proof or unbreakable. Keep in mind that the above cipher grid key samples are just that and the cipher grid keys for binary 1’s and 0’s can be adjusted to mark the particular spot within the 340 cipher any symbol is placed and thus decoded.

Thank you very much morf13… actually it is simpler than that to be honest. Just ask me a question regarding the Zodiac case and I will post my solution.

Welcome CipherMatrix,

Just read your other post. I’m wondering why you don’t think the binary code has never been looked at by top-dogs? It seems a given they would have tried it, but I do ask genuinely.

Also, not sure if sharing your solution would make you a wealthy man…we’ve had so many "solutions", we just tend to brush them off now. If you did come up with a coherent result, I hope you shared it with the proper authorities.

Welcome CipherMatrix. I’m a little concerned that others who have introduced themselves as having "cracked most aspects of the Z case with mathematical certainty" (or similar claims…) haven’t turned out so well. I honestly hope that you have so I can move on to some other pursuit so best of luck to you here. :)

Welcome to the forum CipherMatrix.

I hope some of our resident mathematicians will get a chance to review your teaser and offer their opinions. I will take my lead from them as to whether or not to add any thoughts. Reading your post has made me think of a few things but as I say, I will wait and see if there’s any substance there.

Questions you say? Ok then, how do you crack ‘most’ of something? I can mostly fly, I’ve perfected the getting off the ground bit but staying up there is proving thus far elusive. I would avoid saying things that can sound like bold statements, even if you’re 100% right because no-one else knows if you are and through the course of presenting work or theories here you may even discover that you aren’t right so starting off with an "I’m certain" approach isn’t the best policy. And it comes across as a bit cocky.

Other members have already posted this advice so I’m just really expanding on it and the reason such advice exists. Whatever anyone’s reason for joining the forum, the purpose of the forum is not to showcase ideas or thoughts but it is a sounding board of individuals against whom you can test those ideas. And they will be tested and challenged. It’s for the best otherwise anyone could suggest anything and believe that it must be true.

Mmmmmm I liked the pun on "By the rain" :D Cute.

One last thing. No one is going to ask you questions unless you present something to ask questions about. You have already presented something which is good but don’t drip feed or tease people. We don’t have time for that, this isn’t a show n’ tell playground and that’s not why we are here. You either present your work for others to assess and hopefully assist you with or you don’t and they won’t.

Trav.

I can say with some level of confidence that the authorities never did look at the Zodiac puzzle using the binary angle as this was in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s when binary mathematics was hardly even known as computers were not in wide use at that time. The case was closed before a limited few started looking into the binary aspects of the Z case like Mr. Grant and Mr. Penn, however, they could never really finish their work before becoming Z suspects themselves.
