Welcome. We’d love to hear any stories you have to tell about him, his personality, etc.

Would you be willing to share some details on the social environment in Vallejo at that time?

He was friendly he introduced himself to me, I thought that was neat to the best of my recollection and I don’t remember why I have that feeling. David was born 10/2/51 I was born 4/23/53 so David was a year and a half older than me. I don’t remember the mechanic’s of Vallejo Junior High but Homeroom class was the first 15 min. of school used for attendance I guess and it must have been alphabetical as my last name start’s with an E and we sat right next to each other in homeroom class. So I’ am guessing that I probably thought it was neat an older student took interest in me. Vallejo Jr. High was directly across from Vallejo High on Nebraska St. cross street Alameda I believe. My father died in February 1968 and I moved from Vallejo to Milwaukee, Wisconsin were I was when I heard of the news. The year must have been 1965 or 1966 (that David and I met) you transferred to high school in California in the 10th grade as opposed to Midwest where you would transfer in the 9th grade. I don’t know if it is still the same now. but I was in the 9th grade in 1967 I know that. I’ am sixty years old now and all that is a long time ago, hard to remember how it all went. I have a vivid picture of David in my mind of his smile and presence that haunts me every time I think of him.

Was Vallejo (getting) dark and seedy?

Was Vallejo getting dark and seedy? No not in my estimation. Vallejo’s population at that time was roughly thirty-five thousand people. It had a small town feel it was virtually unknown even to Californians up until this event took place it put Vallejo on the world wide map for ever after. Vallejo Jr High school’s total student body was only several hundred student’s Vallejo High school’s total student body population was under one thousand student’s I believe. Everybody was familiar to you because of the small numbers. My feel is that there was another party unknown too all except maybe Betty who had showed interest in her and pursued her that is my gut feeling about this, and that they attended Vallejo High or had recently graduated from Vallejo High.

Just as I knew the victim there is a chance that I also know the Killer! That is always in my mind as Vallejo was not that large in the late 60’s. That is if the killer is from Vallejo (my gut feeling is he is or was living there when the crimes were committed.

What do you think about "David was openly talking about a major drug deal he learned of, and it was thought that perhaps the attacker killed to keep David silent."?

I have been to Lake Herman Road many times before this incident and many times since it brings chills to my soul now when I go. Lake Herman Road was also known as Gravity Hill just in front of Syar Quarry about a mile west of the murder site the road looks as if it is uphill but if you stop your car and put it in neutral the car will roll what looks like up hill. I haven’t been there in about 14 years so I do not know if it has changed I suspect it has greatly.

Good to have you here 4weed.

Thanks for posting these insights into David, Vallejo and life back then in a small town. Very interesting indeed. We call those ‘gravity’ hills magic hills over here – gravity sounds better though, saves having to explain what a magic hill is to those that know what a gravity hill is lol.

Welcome aboard.

Trav.

I do not think that is true. There were plenty of drugs around Vallejo as everywhere in the late sixties. I don’t personally know of David’s drug use if any but I don’t see it as fitting into the scenario that played out on Lake Herman RD.

Welcome 4weed, and thanks for sharing:)

May I ask; did you stay in Wisconsin for long or did you move back to California/Vallejo area and have any knowledge of who might be a Zodiac suspect?

Hi, english is not my first language so please bear with me :)
